I turned off the registration and deleted all of those new "users"... so far I havent seen anymore come through, and hopefully I won't. I wonder what they get out of it though. So many different crazy aspects to blogging that I cant keep up sometimes! lol.

Don't worry. You are not the only one that can't keep up. It is a dynamic environment changing constantly. We are all on a learning curve.

I don't have the user registration active either. I do have staff writers but I usually create the initial login for them and let them change their password. So I didn't have to activate it until now.

But from KNS, it looks like they were able to register even though you don't allow registration?

That's right! From day 1 I turned off the option for people to register, but one day I got an email telling me that a new user registered to the site. I was able to delete the user account with no problems, but it still bothered me that they found a way to register with the option turned off.

I don't know why you would allow new users to your blog? Is there a benefit of doing that? i guess if you have a forum on your blog or something like that, it would make sense. I have mine set so no one can register except the admin. When I have a regular guest poster or a staff writer, then I will grant them a user ID and stuff like that.

Agreed. This is why I have it. There really isn't any other reason.

How do you mean by new user registrations? Do you have your blog set up for people to register? Or do you mean something like a feedburner or newsletter registration?

The only reason I would have a new user registration, for example, is if I had an author I was setting up to write articles on the site. Otherwise no one should be able to register.

Some other sites do have user registrations, so that's why I ask to clarify what you mean.

Do any of you get new user registrations on your blog? This happened once before several months ago, and now 3 times today. The users are registered as subscribers to my blog and their domains are tom.com and 163.com...both appear to be Chinese domains. Not sure how or why they register or do this... in hopes I will pass spammy comments with links perhaps? Sorry I cant explain this better if it isnt too clear.
