I know that from Web Master Tools that the time has decreased for me after simply moving to hostgator over my previous host provider.

Preliminary data is in!

Bounce rate is down 11%

Pages per visit is up ~25%

...and total traffic is up. While this is a very small sample size, I'm pretty confident that reducing the page load speed has done wonders. For one, people are more likely to click to another page if they don't have to wait forever for the page to load...I can't believe I waited so long to move this blog off shared hosting. Second, it seems that visitors who would normally go to one of my 2 sites I just optimized would be likely to click off before Google analytics had registered them. Total traffic is up big time.

I'm pretty stoked with these results, even more so because I was the one to optimize the site. I usually just pay someone to do it, and I'll probably do that anyway, but this is a thump my chest moment because I almost always find a way to make a problem 10x worse than it was before I tried to fix it. I don't know how many times I've had to use Google cache to restore code on my sites.

I'm having serious problems with page-load speed also. In the last few days the site simply fails to load. Not good. I'm re-building the site this weekend, beginning with a new theme, fewer wigits, etc. I create all my images, and have been saving them as PNG. Simply switching to JPG wll decrease the system demands. So much to do.

I don't know anything about these widgets.

However, I just moved MoneyMamba to my VPS and

1) deleted inactive plugins (they still load, apparently)

2) changed setting to "serve cached pages to visitors" in WPSuperCache

3) rejoiced at how painfully easy the c-c-c-c-ombo of moving the site to my VPS (which is 10x faster than the shared hosting account I had it on…free isn't always good!) and dialing up WPSuperCache was for reducing loading times.

VPS is in a Softlayer datacenter (they're amazing), but still, it shouldn't have made _that_ much of a difference. I need to put WPSuperCache in my "must remember to do with new sites" list when I throw stuff online.

I'm looking for a plug-in (I know its out there!) to allow me to order loading of other plugins. Tweetmeme is getting on my nerves, so I want to put it at the end of the loading cycle. We'll see how that pans out. If anyone knows what it's called, holler!

I think for the Bills.com widget, you can go into the code and add the image dimensions to each image. That will speed up the page a bit. You could possibly host the images yourself as well.

I think I found out that trick using either Yslow or Page Speed.

Hi all. I just ran a test on my homepage and there are is a whole lot going on there these days. The Bills.com widget and new Sainsbury widget each have a lot of code and I have a lot of images from all over the place. Any ideas to compress and speed things up beyond a caching plugin?
