I did this on my Mac so I can test out theme tweaks or how a new layout element (ad, additional sidebar, etc.) will look. I don't like to mess with theme settings inside of Wordpress, and in the case of the Thesis theme, one small typo in my custom functions file can keep my site from loading. Another benefit to this is that I always have 2 copies of my theme files.

This is somewhat of an advanced thing to do, but it's nice to have.

My current theme has sooo many customization and it took almost a month to get it to where it is now. I am better now (I hope), but it might still take at least a week for me to customize any new themes. But I don't want my user to notice anything until I flip the switch. My question is - how do you test drive a theme before you deploy it? Is there a way for he admistrator to see all the changes while the users see the old theme?

I did some searching and found the theme test drive plugin - http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....est-drive/ Anyone used it? Did you like it?
