If you're checking links on a site that you own you can do that for free on Majestic SEO (Won't work on someone else's site though).

To do it you just ...
1) sign up for an account at Majestic SEO
2) go to https://www.majesticseo.com/reports
3) go down to "Analyse a New Website" section and enter your site
4) click "create a free report"
5) you will be asked to create a text file with a specific name... create it and upload it to your server (verifies that you own the site)
6) agree to TOS and tell it to crawl your site

It may not give every link you have but it should be a very good start.

I know many people are interested in the stats of their sites.

Here is a link to a site that I like to use to check my backlinks:

http://www.backlinkwatch.com/

It isn't completely accurate, but the results are still interesting.

Once you type in your URL to your site the program takes a bit of time to list all of your links. The more you have of course the longer it will take. I find it works best in Firefox or Safari

Also it may take a few weeks to grab your newest backlinks.
