Thanks everyone! I wrote a post comparing different checking accounts and finally decided to go with Schwab because of all the great things I heard about them.

http://www.youngprofessionalfi.....omparison/

I'll be writing in the future how that account is working out - and whether I made the wrong decision.

I use Digital Federal Credit Union (http://dcu.org). Love it. No fees whatsoever.

Drawback: Hardly any bank branches. But they refund any ATM fees incurred.

Same here Tushar! Best decision I have ever made in terms of my finances.

I recommend going one of two ways – either a relationship with a local credit union/community bank or an online bank. Both of these types of banks will be a lot more lenient on the fees and you’ll actually get better service. I’ve got a local bank in Atlanta (Atlantic Capital Bank) which is fantastic and I’ve recommended on line banks like ally.com, everbank.com, and ingdirect.com

Credit unions are my top choice. Think about it: credit unions are out-of-date. They're not-for-profit and they keep money local. They don't benefit from extraneous charges since they can't carry a balance year after year. Mine gives me my ATM fees back, they give me interest on my checking account, and they give me interest in my savings account.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'll definitely check out Credit Unions, TD Bank and PNC. I'm leaning towards Schwab right now even though I'm not looking at it for investment purposes but I really want to know all of my options before deciding.

I have PNC Virtual Wallet and I love it so much, I wrote a post about it. (http://www.sooverdebt.com/2011.....f-my-life/)

Among its best features: Built-in budgeting software in online banking, remote deposit from your smartphone, no fees, calendar feature (lets you tell it when you get paid and it calculates your free balance based spending, pending items, and bills scheduled to come out before the next payday), attached long-term savings, and a short-term savings account that lets you set multiple savings goals and allocate money to them.

I'm slightly obsessed with my bank account because it's so awesome! I am always stalking people to try to get them to switch over. The people who have are in love as well (though maybe not as much as I am).

Also a fan of Charles Schwab Bank if you are an investor. I am keeping my eyes on ING to see what happens with Capital One. I have an account there too.

I currently have a checking account with Bank of America but with the fees they're implementing, I'm thinking of switching banks. I'm looking for any opinions that could help me decide on the best bank so I'm turning to all of you.

What bank do you currently have a checking account with? What do you like/dislike about it?
