Last year I took everyone out for a family dinner. It was nice piling everyone into the car. I spent a lot less and we had a great time!

Oh and on my blog I do 30 days of Christmas freebies.

Our families don't do gifts for xmas anymore which is good since none of us really need anything. I am sure it will change when grandkids come though.

I agree- it's always more fun to buy gifts when the kiddos come along, but until then we adults seem to just get things as we need them. I'm not sure if it's because we're efficient and don't over indulge by buying overtime or if we're just impatient and get things as we need/want them throughout the year.

I always like to get things for my Dad though- he's not much of a gift giver (since he will send me money for school books or expenses to help me through grad school) but for his birthday and Xmas I like to get him things that he can use- snacks, candy, new socks (for the love of God he never replaces those things!) and new pajamas every year...etc.

I am going to have to set a budget but haven't given it much thought or had too much time to shop either. I'm almost tempted to see if I can get a deal on gift cards and just do that for everyone. Hmmm.

I set the overall budget at the beginning of the year and budget so much money every month to go into the gifts fund.

About now, I figure out how much I'm spending per giftee and buy accordingly.

It keeps me from going overboard on the gift giving.

Have y'all started thinking about Christmas? I'm not sure how I"m going to budget it, but I thought I'd ask for guidance because I know I need to plan ahead financially but am not sure what the heck I'll do.

How do you decide on a holiday budget? Do you buy a lot of gifts or do you set limits? How far ahead do you start saving and how far ahead do you start shopping for deals (if at all?)
