The difference between English used by English and non english people is fascinating. I don't subscribe to the theory that just because I am English my spelling/pronunciation/grammar is correct or superior. It used to annoy me somewhat, but after looking into it, it turns out there are many examples in American/Canadian speech where the difference is down to our friends across the pond actually using the original word, and the metamorphasis has occurred in England. For example, when you talk about the season before Winter, or Fall as you call it, we call it Autumn, although Fall (the season) was in common useage over here a century ago, it is no longer used at all for this meaning. 

I've always been somewhat interested in US English vs "Queen's English" A lot of the changes were proposed by Noah Webster in the early 19th century because he wanted the US to have distinct language from England in a time when the two countries were still enemies.

In terms of cheques though, the word is originally french (as you can probably guess from the spelling), so nyer nyer!! :P

I struggle a lot with communicating about money to my other half, and the importance of getting out of debt and budgeting properly - she's pretty much pay cheque to pay cheque.

I've had a lot of ideas about how to go about getting her to understand where I'm coming from, and getting her on side with my ideas, and I shall write a new blog post about that soon, but I've found a few posts by other members quite helpful, so I'm thinking I'll add in a bunch of links to posts like these. I mean, everyone has a different voice, a different take, and sometimes a post doesn't speak to you, and sometimes, it's like it's been written for your exact situation.
