Thanks for your insight. I have had business partners before, some good, some not so good. I always enter the relationship with a very good written understanding. I usually the one who puts up the money so I try to get 100% ownership and give my partner a good portion of the profits. That way I am in control. I like the model where I bring the money, marketing and business skill and my partner brings the expertise.

I like to try different businesses but only invest when I feel comfortable and my lawyer gives me the thumbs up.

Be really careful choosing a business partner. Make sure you do credit check and get to know the individual very very well. Sunil (I think) at extra money blog had an interesting post about buying a dry cleaning business. Good luck

I'm picking this back up. I am looking to invest in something cool, new and unique. Doesn't have to be on-line. Kind of an angel thing. I was thinking about putting something up at meetup.com in my area.

I would suggest digging in your personal network first. A friend of a friend can make a good business partner. I would suggest online resources as a backup alternative, but you're more likely to run into a lot of funny business. LinkedIn tends to be a hot spot for professionals who might be what you're looking for.

I have been thinking about and searching for the right company to invest in. The truth is that I want to start my own business. I would love to hook up with some like minded people to start something great. Any ideas on how to find these people?

P.S. I have heard to many pitches from scams and MLMs.
