The Alexa ranking can be frustrating at times for us challengers. I was gone in Honduras for part of October which caused some of my traffic to disappear since I missed a few posts. Those few weeks have caused my Alexa to go from 160K to 196K today with a one month ranking of 260K. I also think that my increased Google traffic has hurt that ranking as well. I am just hoping to finish strong leading into the end of the year.

Piggybacking on what funancials said, keep in mind your Alexa is a 3 month average. So if you have a bad month in there your ranking will go up until you have one or two good months in a row. After a month or so you should see some dramatic improvement in your score.

I tend to focus too much on it when it goes down. I used to actually track it in a spreadsheet multiple times per week. That got way too nuts!

I find that with mine, sometimes it will get a big bump, where it went from like 175,000 to 135,000 in a few days, but then it will slowly trend back down hitting somewhere in the middle. It's done that for me a few times and I'm sort of in one of those funk now, hoping for another reversal sooner rather than later!

But I've learned not to get as crazy about them as I used to.

Focusing on it can be a good and bad thing. It can help motivate you to put more effort into networking and interacting, yet it isn't everything.

For example, I set a goal to reach by the end of 3 months. Right now, I am on the edge of making my goal... so it keeps motivating me to put more into networking. Yet, I know if I don't make my goal, I still made lots of progress.

I put relatively little into my Alexa Rank. Even though mine is now just around 80k, my overall traffic numbers aren't anything to brag about. Essentially, that means most of my visitors are those who have the toolbar installed, which means that it's probably Yakezie members.

I would concentrate on establishing a strong readership by writing steadily, leaving good comments on other sites, and trying to get conversations going and that will hopefully spread to outside readers.

MozRank and PageRank are not limited to those who have a toolbar installed, so that is where I put a lot of my focus by linking out to trusted sources as well as getting inbound links from trusted sources.

It's just my opinion, though.

I personally put a lot less focus on the Alexa now...it tends to hover around 100k for me, its always quite easy to make a real push to lower it, but like everyone said, it can drive you insane trying.

Nothing wrong with checking it daily when beginning the challenge - but it will cause you to go insane.

Since it's looking at a 3-month average, if you have more visitors today than you did 3 months ago - it will go down tomorrow. Like the others said, if you continue to add great content, people will find your sight. As they do, your ranking will continue to drop.

I agree checking it too often will only make you go nuts. I track it about once a month and I look for trend versus actual numbers. In the last month, I saw my PageRank increase and my Alexa rank went up. Go figure! Focus on content and building traffic and the statistics will take care of themselves. Good luck.

You're looking at such a tiny statistical sample. You need to look at it over a longer period of time, like a month.

Also, the number of sites and their traffic properties fluctuate constantly! There are a ridiculous number of site created every day. And on top of that, any number of sites around you in the ranking numbers can have a traffic surge or slowdown that would affect your particular ranking without you doing anything different.

It fluctuates depending on how many people with the toolbar visit your site. Most days (knock on wood) mine goes down a little, but sometimes it goes back up. OneCent is right, though - the more you participate in the forums, the more people will click through. Since nearly all of us are using the toolbar, it'll help a lot. :)

Alexa is not in our hand, the ranking system determines the rank based on others visit.Your overall rank decreased and US rank increased and this is normal. History shows participating in this forum has amazing effect on your rank.
