Lean towards original content. Although everyone says that guest posting on other blogs is a great way to drive new traffic, I'm having a hard enough time squeezing in about 3 posts a week into my blog.

I think job 1 is to keep up the posts at your blog. This is why subscribers come to your site right?

Guest posting at other sites are great to bring in new readers, but you have to keep up your blog first.

I don't have time/energy to do a lot of guest posts so the Yakezie Blog Swap was really great for me.

Once every 3 weeks is plenty.

Here's the problem with only guest posting - when readers from other sites come to yours what will they see? Will they follow your work if you haven't posted in weeks?

You need to find a balance. I'd say post regulalry on your own site and space out articles on other sites as you can.

I post 5-6 times a week, have 1-2 guest posts on my own site, and guest post elsewhere at least 4 times a month. It seems to be working for me. :-)

You could split it fairly evenly for good results. If you normally post everyday, post every other day on your blog & submit guest posts on the off days. If you post twice a week, go with once and offer 4-5 guest posts in a month. I try to mix in a few guest posts every month, plus blogging regularly on my own sites.

Hmmm. Not sure yet. Was kinda inspired by your post on guest posting. Just weighing options. Trying to work smarter, not harder. If you do the same amount of work, wouldn't you want to choose the path that brings in higher returns? Will keep ya posted!

I agree with Aloysa. Even if I read a great guest post, once I went over to your site and saw that it wasn't updated in a while, I wouldn't subscribe to your feed or anything.

So you would get an initial surge of traffic, but no new readers.

I'd say you post regularly on your site AND do guest posts. It important to write for your own site. Otherwise people will come over and see that the site wasn't updated for a month. Then what?
