On Twitter, I follow people back who do not appear to be spammers and who don't have their twitter feeds locked. Occasionally I will unfollow someone if they're constantly tweeting about something I can't stand. Facebook is a little different, in that I can't really friend people back on my fan page. But I will often "like" people back in return that I know have fan pages.

Hey Buck,

Here is a great site to use to see if there are people you are following who aren't following you back: http://friendorfollow.com/

You can also see if you are doing the same to others. I go through it about once every few months to see if I want to continue following someone who doesn't follow back.

I go through my followers list once a month or so, so maybe the people you are following just haven't gotten around to it yet?

Me too... sometimes there isn't the time to go through the list.

My motto is this. Don't worry about it. Be patient, and over time, some will follow you and some won't but keep writing good content and your followers will grow. But if you get too wrapped up in #'s, stats, followers etc., you're taking energy from creating interesting content. Easier said than done :)

I used to automatically follow everyone but there started to be too much spam and to was too much. I try to follow back that that engage me. Mention me or RT something I put out there (with a mention) and I'll probably follow back.

I hope that doesn't come off as snotty but there's really so much spam out there that if I went through my twitter list for every follow my productivity would go down a LOT!

If you are going to follow someone, follow them because you want to and don't worry if they follow back or not.

Some people just want to have a clear feed of people they are following as in only those they care a lot about. In that case, you can expect that they won't follow you back. Then you need to decide if you want to keep following them.

I honestly don't think following somebody just to get a follow back makes a whole lot of sense. It's kind of stupid really ... but we all do it, including myself just to make our numbers look better ;)

Hi guys,

Call me sensitive or because I'm just starting out, I notice it more. On Twitter or Facebook, if someone follows you or friends you, do you return the favor? I figure it's common courtesy!

I notice it more on Twitter, I understand some people have thousands of followers, but the anal retentive side of me is getting thrown off because the number I'm following and the number of followers don't match!!!
