Doing it under your own name is easier because you can continue to use your individual bank account if you want. (But you should definitely keep separate financial records.) That's not really an overwhelming advantage though, so the short answer IMO is no :)

Buck, the DBA filing isn't that much in California but is done through the county. It's good for several years.

Are you actually doing business as your blog name, or are you doing business under your own name? The answer will depend both on your state and on what you're doing. My business name (both when I was a sole proprietorship and now that it's an LLC) has nothing to do with my blog name. I did file trade names though with the secretary of state for those names.

In AZ to open a bank account in your business name you need to file a tradename with the secretary of state. It costs $10 and takes maybe two weeks. I'm pretty sure that was the only time I ever needed it. However it also protects you from anyone else in your state from taking your name. But if someone else is already using it you won't be able to register it.

It depends on your state whether or not you need one. Going with that, some banks/states want you to file a DBA to open an account under that DBA name.

Hi all,

I've seen posts in the past to assist with taxes, but I can't recall how you handle your blog, company name. Do we need to file a DBA? Sorry confused.
