Thanks everyone for taking the poll.

It's interesting that so many people are choosing 2 millions plus. That is a lot of money, but I guess it's good to shoot for the stars.

Dr. Dean is right about passive income streams. We really need those to help with our retirement now that pensions have mostly disappeared.

nice poll Joe, liked the post too. Interesting to see that there is currently an even spread from 1 to 5 million, but then everyone has different needs and wants don't they? I'm a fan of @Charles' logic and am in the same boat, hoping for that higher rate of increase too!

it all depends on how old you are now. If you're like Tony Chou and only 15 years old, then you might aim super high. But if you're already close to retirement age, then you'll have a more realistic goal. I'm in the mid 30s so I still have 30 years to build wealth. If I gain 10% every year from $100,000, then I'll have close to 1.75 million in 30 year. If I do a little better than 10% to 15%, then the number grows exponentially to over 6.5 million.

Is that realistic? The average net worth of 65+ Americans is only 250k.

It would be nice to have $5 million, but I don't think I'll get there.
