Thanks for the responses thus far everyone! It is hard to find the perfect balance of putting enough time into your site to be somewhat successful, and not spending all your free time blogging! (Or maybe that is a personal problem for me...)

Ummm...maybe it's a personal problem for both of us then, lol. I knew it was becoming an issue when I told my parents not to visit me after work because I had blog email to check between 5-7pm, lol. I am trying to tone it back now but it is so very addictive! I want to see what people are saying, asking, offering, needing...my mind loves the speed and communication...yep, I'm an addict - and loving it! :-)

Kris, the first year is the hardest since it takes a while for search engines to discover, index and position your blog. Though I started MoneyCone about the same time as you, I have other blogs that are more than a year old which I hardly update yet get pretty decent organic traffic.

I would say around a year is when it started coming together for me too but I was in a different niche, Internet Marketing and blog tips mainly with some randomness thrown in. My frugal blog was started just after the year mark and quickly became my fave and most personal.... Ditched IM blogs and things now.

I think that the first year is the toughest. I learned a lot over my first year of blogging. Traffic didn't increase dramatically but it did help me with Google. I started to get more organic traffic. Plus it helps build your authority with other sites. They know that your blog has been around for awhile. Congratulations!

Greetings everyone!

I have been blogging about 9 months now, and I am happy with where I am at I suppose. (I didn't know what to expect, so no need to get upset!)

Anyway, I have read in many places that the first year is tough blogging, and then things just seem to take off. Is this true? Is it just that you have more posts so you get more search engine traffic? Is there something magical about the first year, or is it just a generalization?

(Maybe Google will have updated their page rank by my one year anniversary??)

Thoughts from anyone?
