Yep, what matters is that the other blog has linked to you. The pingback itself is just to notify you and readers that others have linked to your post.

Sometimes it takes time, and sometimes you'll never get them (Wordpress isn't the greatest when it comes to handling pingbacks). Also check that they're not in your spam.

I've only linked to about half the group and later in the week I'll link to the other half. Here's the post:

the reason for backlinks being counted vs not is the inherent coding of the website. some links have a no follow tag, which i believe wordpress has by default in its comment field. meaning, if you leave a link in the comment field, the page rank juice doesn't flow back to your website. the most you can hope for is actual visitor/referral traffic

make sure you have your trackback / pingback notifications on to receive notices when someone links to your site. otherwise, it may go unnoticed.

This is terribly important. If you don't reciprocate then you may lose future link love.

I've noticed that WordPRess isn't very good at sending out trackbacks and pingbacks. It doesn't seem to ping everyone, or if it does, sometime much later. Sometimes I update an old post and THEN it sends out the pingbacks to another of my old posts ;)

Then of course there is always Akismet hell. I'm sure there are lots of guys that I link to that don't even know about it.

I think it could be even worse with Blogger though, cause I'm not sure but I don't think it even supports pingbacks. Hope there will be some improvement to this down the road for both there and Wordpress.

Blogger is terrible. I've never gotten a trackback. They claim to support it, but I'm guessing that unless you have a degree in rocket science, you'll never figure it out. This is why I abandoned blogger early on. Worpress definitely has it's problems with it too, but I'm sure it will only get better.

Yes, it is good manners to link back to the carnival at the very least. It is better manners to link to an article other than the carnival on that person's site. There are many ways to join them such as looking around on these forums, emailing the hosts, or some have signup sheets.

Thanks,

I personally think that linking to an article is much more valuable.

Here are three good carnivals that I participate in:

http://canadianfinanceblog.com/carnival

http://blogcarnival.com/bc/sub.....10938.html

Carnival is a link round up that moves from site to site based on some theme. I am not explaining it right, but when I started a blog, this is the best post I read about carnivals -

http://www.fivecentnickel.com/.....carnivals/

This gives every information you might need. For personal finance, some of the famous carnivals are

Carnival of personal finance

Best of money carnival

Festival of frugality

Carnival of money stories

There might be more. Look here, this has most of the carnivals listed (more than personal finance) and you can submit your post too-

http://blogcarnival.com/bc/clist.html

Choose whatever catergory that fits your post and submit away.
