Ever heard of the term customer value proposition?

Simply put, a customer value proposition is a short statement explaining your product and why consumers will benefit from it. It's used in business strategy to help identify how to position companies in the marketplace.

So what's your blog's customer value proposition? Why will people read your blog? Is it your SEO skills? Your humor/writing style? Do you know how to leverage social media? Niche content?

I don't think this step is extremely important when you first start out. Instead, networking is the big must in the beginning (which actually could be its own customer value proposition). If you are up against the wall and can't figure out why your site has plateaued, thinking about your customer value proposition would be a good place to examine.

So two things:

First, what's your blog's customer value proposition?

Second, what do you think at least one other Yakezie's customer value proposition is?

I'd always wanted Smart Family Finance to be like the Nate Silver from NYT 538 of the PF blogging world. Hence all the family facts/figures/statistics. However, more recently I've been mixing in current news into my content/titles to make it a little more interesting and expand my presence on google.

Here's a short list from off the top of my head:

The Penny Hoarder: unique content focused on uncommon ways to make money

So Over Debt: entertaining writing style and personal interest with a lot of helpful PF mixed in

Punch Debt in the Face: excellent humor writing that keeps me coming back on a regular basis

Don't Quit Your Day Job: Readers are gluttons for intellectual punishment.  Readers enjoy groan-worthy charts… ?

I hear you on 538… I was reading Nate from way before he was part of the Times.  We do sometimes write posts which are similar to that style, but I think sometimes we're closer to a Freakonomics type deal.

What I actually want the site to be is, "Readers have no idea what's next, but they want to find out".  Wide ranging content, yet somehow related to economics, personal finance, politics or real estate.  And sure, the occasional random article!

I like Barb's blog for her nuggets of wisdom mainly focussed on investing!  Explanations are easy to understand and straight to the point.

Barb's advice is spot on (index, don't speculate!)!

First, what's your blog's customer value proposition?

My primary focus is on how to improve one's life ("maximize life EV") and how personal finance can get us there. Almost everything I write has this as the backdrop.

Second, what do you think at least one other Yakezie's customer value proposition is?

Retire by 40 is all about… well, retiring by 40. ;)

I am along the same lines as IIW. I try to maximize everything in life and life the best life possible. All the things I share on my blog are things I have learned along my journey.

As far as listing another blog, I really like Wealth Informatics. I find the each topic very interesting and Suba does an amazing job with graphics.

Personally I shoot for simplicity for topics that are often made more complicated than they have to be.

I profiled a few bloggers and their angle on PF blogging in the most recent Carnival of PF.

MoneyMamba: Anything goes as long as it hasn't been posted all over the net before – including YouTube videos about throwing rocks down oil wells.

I digg Pkamp3's goal "Readers have no idea what's next, but they want to find out."  That would be my objective, even if I don't reach it.

I admit that I have not traversed your site much, but I really enjoy the content. Do you find it hard to sell the econ angle on things? In general, it usually fairs poorly on my site.
