I'm running it like a business, but also am trying to make it pay its own way (bootstrap it).  It so far is not producing enough $$ to hire staff or get for pay products…..but I'm hoping.

I'm working on several sites at the same time so that sucks a lot of my resources.

Good Luck I'm sure you'll get there! Laugh

It's definitely a business for me :)

In either case, you guys might want to read this if you're in the US: http://1.usa.gov/TdmY69 (from the IRS)

My blog is not even three months old, but I definitely view it as a business.  I enjoy writing and running the website, but I would not be putting all the time into the site if I didn't plan on one day making money from it.

When I was in college I got paid a couple hundred a month to do marketing, SEO, social media, and other ad-hoc work for DINKs Finance.  I learned a lot about running a blog as a business from the owner, James.  They treated the site as a business very early on and I hope to follow their model.

I am trying to be very intentional about planning where I want to go with my site.  My first goal was just to get the site up and tweak a theme myself (despite almost no coding experience) to look decent.  I got that done.  Now I'm building content and connections.  Next I plan a site redesign.  Down the road I would love to have 3+ posts a day with multiple hired writers contributing.  Most important is patience for me right now and taking it one step at a time.

That was kind of a long answer to your relatively simple question, but yes, I view it as a business.

I view mine as a business but don't plan on taking quite as intense a route as YAM.

Mine is a hobby for now, but hoping to grow into a business. I don't have the bandwidth to really grow it as fast as I would like right now, but once I do, you bet I'll be rocking this thing as a full-fledged small business.

And luckily, I'm a tax guy, so I can set this thing up quickly and get all the tax benefits once I start bringing in some money.

came up @ CPFC12 (Canadian Fincon?) today.

needs a much longer discussion than 45 minutes for sure.

A pretty emotional topic I think.  I heard some takes, from some pretty major sites.

I gave my take as well.  Those who deal with advertising need to have some help in education about how web marketing works.  I like to believe I "get it", happy to chat about it.
