Idea of How to Obtain New Advertisers on Your Personal Finance Blog!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a quick tip that (may seem obvious, haha) has been working for me recently in obtaining new advisors on my site.

Several times a week, I (probably like many of you all) are contacted by people wanting to do guest posts. After some back and forth with them, and if they send a good quality guest post, I usually finish the interaction by asking them if they would be interesting in placing an advertisement on my page.

I've been surprised to find out that many-a-times, they are very interested! I have been generating several new offers that way!

Just wanted to share the tip! You all may be doing this, but I figured it couldn't hurt to share! Go Yakezie!

Nice!  I haven't tried that yet!  Do you do this with people who are paying for a sponsored post?

I must be doing something terribly wrong. I never get guest posts request (or any ad enquiry). I don't even get spam :)  I get around 500-700 visitors on a weekday and it drops to 300 on the weekends. At what point of time will I look relevant to advertisors? Should I be contacting people or will they contact me? How does it work? I just have adsense now. May be I should add an advertise page? Will that help? (Sorry if this is a stupid question)

How the heck do you not get spam?!  I only get 100-200 visitors on my best days ever and I've gotten 40,000 spam in 6 months!

Oh well, to get to your question, a Contact Page helps a lot!  An Advertise Page helps even more (I just added one 3-4 weeks ago and my requests have tripled to 5-15 per week so far – only 10% of them seem to work out, but I'm still smiling).  Feel free to check out how my contact pages are laid out if it helps.  I use the "Enhanced WP-ContactForm" Plugin for my two contact forms since it was easy to type in [wpcj] to get it to work, lol.

40000 is 40 times more spam than I have ever got :) My typepad spam plugin says it has killed 1358 spam so far and I am 7.5 months old, I average 5-8 spam a day, much much managable compared to 40000. So I AM doing something wrong (or right, wrt to "just" spam).

I do have the Enhanced WP-Contact form, but no advertiser has ever contacted me via that. I will add an advertiser page then, similar to what you have with some stats and a contact form. I like your guest post page as well, I will add one of those as well. After that may be I will get some contact.May be because I don't have any ads on my homepage they don't think I accept ads (not sure if they assume like that or contact) or may be because no one knows that I exist Smile time to do a lot of guest posts I guess.

Thanks a lot!!! I am going to steal your guest post template and advertise page template! Thanks!

Suba,

That is a TON of traffic for a personal finance blog and if i had to guess more than 85% of the yakezie group.  Are those numbers from google analytics?

My question to you would be Why aren't the advertisers finding you? Is most of your traffic from referrals? or do you rank high in keywords? Are you using All in One SEO for wordpress?

I actually haven't had a sponsored post yet! I have just done this with normal guest post offers! Might work especially well for sponsored posts though!

I agree with all of this! I haven't made a TON of money off of my blog, but having an advertising and contact me page does help. I like to make it extremely easy for people to contact me. I'm not at the point quite yet where I get spam either, so that's a plus!

Feel free to use/copy paste my contact and advertising pages if you want!!!

Evan,

Yes that is from Google analytics, for Nov 16-Dec 15

  • 16,009 Visits
  • 31,008 Pageviews
  •

As for your second question why advertisers are not finding me, I would love to know Embarassed don't know what I am doing that is putting them off.

Most of my traffic comes from google (72.71% according to analytics), next is from direct/rss, my referral is abysmal, 1.3%. I am using Headspace actually, I looked into All in one SEO too, but I started with headspace and didn't see any advantage to switch over. I was not sure if I had to do all the descriptions again. So I stuck with headspace.

If you have any advice on how to let advertisers know that I exist, I am all ears. If you want to know anything about SEO, I can tell you whatever I know (if you didn't know them already).

What?! My good day is about 100-150! And I am happy, no complaints there. Be happy with a such incredible traffic! But it is odd that you don't get spam… Other than I want to hear answers to all of your questions…

Nope as I mentioned to Crystal, I get 5 spam comments (mostly in a language that I don't recognize, so no idea what the subject is). I even look forward to my spam.

Don't get me wrong, I am incredibly happy with my traffic. I am VERY grateful for that. If I don't write for a week, it goes down, but whatever traffic I get I am very very happy to have them. I am just trying to see how I can convert my traffic to some money, if that is possible.

I will add an advertise page right away. I will use Crystal's and Jacob's template, they are short and conveys the point. I like that. Thanks a lot guys!

I think I've found the problem: Your PR is 0! The type of advertisers that contact me directly usually want to do text link ads in my sidebar or a widget. Those types of advertisements rely on a decent PageRank. I started bloggin last Dec/Jan and had my first real offer by May. I
was only getting about 20 uniques a day at this point. But I managed to get a
text link ad for $600 for 1 year, probably because my PR is 4. I've realized since that I got extremely lucky with my timing. Google updated page rank
right when I was on fire blogging. A guest post had recently been
published I believe, carnivals every week, etc.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it. Getting links to your site will help, but only once Google updates PR. Since it's been months since the last update, I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe Google will do something at the beginning of 2011.

With that much traffic though, I would really try to pimp out my AdSense potential. I didn't see any ads on your homepage, and I was actively looking for them so there's no way visitors are seeing them if I happened to just miss them. Throw up a 300x250 ad block above/below your sidebar for a week and see what happens.

If you're cool with it, would you mind throwing out how much you're earning from the ads you have on individual post pages? Not click through rates or anything, just the dollar amount per day/month.

Heh.  I get a few requests for guest posts every week.   If they are a "freelancer" or obviously a business, I send them my rate card.

    Here's my standard response:

    Dear xxx,

I'd love to run a sponsored post for you!  Here are my rates:

Nobody has gotten upset, yet.  They know they are looking for advertising.  I wouldn't think of charging an actual blogger for a guest post, but I also won't run a guest post for free when it's just an SEO game for a business.   I have in the past, but I learned.

    Very interesting.

I got our first guest post request but something in my gut said it was a business thing.  While i've agreed to post the post (Investing Tips for Beginners) and could not find anything on google which was a replicated post (tho i've learn there are sites that help people slightly alter posts).

Now I have to balance gaining traffic on our month old site and what you've discussed here.  Perhaps I should be more wary about accepting this guest post …

    Advice is welcome!
