So my site suddenly jumped back to being a PageRank 5 with the big G a month ago (which was very good news, I am not complaining about that), however since then I have been INUNDATED with Link-swap requests and Advertising requests from every corner of the earth. I know this is a good thing, but it is annoying as well, having to tell Cheque Cashing sites in the UK that I do not want to have them directly advertise on my web site. I end up with a weird set of advertisers from my TextLinkAds section, I seem to draw the line at Pay Cheque Advance sites and the like.

I am trying to put together a form response that is polite, but firm to these folks, any suggestions would be appreciated.

How about "I'm not interested but you might try kevin@financiallypoor.com" :) But seriously, just a nice " I'm sorry I'm just not interested", or just don't respond….or like a said just send them my way if they want to purchase advertising :)

Yeah, I'm another one who wishes to have that problem!

I think just a polite response as was already suggested would work great. Especially, since their may be an opportunity in the future to work with them on something that you don't mind advertising.

My apologies for complaining about a good thing, I guess Idid sound kind of whiney. You'll get harrassed soon enough by these folks. My income fluctuates (if you would call slave wages income), and maybe I shouldn't be so picky, but I really have a problem with the whole Pay Day Loan industry and have written SO many posts about how they are vultures and parasites, I think it's a little hypocritical of me to then allow them to directly advertise on my site, although I could then ridicule them even more?!?!

I completely understand where you are coming from and wasn't trying to demean your aggravation.  But I don't mind advertising for almost anyone so I thought I could volunteer – like a win-win.  I label all my text links and ads – I also figure my readers are used to ignoring ads anyway.  :-)  Here's a real letter you could pass on if you'd like, but I don't think any of us that commented would mind if you really did pass on our names:

Hi XXX,

Thank you so much for your interest in my site.  Unfortunately, I am not looking to do business right now.  Good luck with your future prospects.  <This is where you could interject, "I know that these sites would all be interested:" or "I am also a member of a large blog network….">

Thanks again,

Big Cajun Man

Not whiney at all. I wouldn't want to let a company that I completely disagree with (or despise) advertise on my site. However, I wouldn't be opposed to inserting a text link into an article where I'm speaking negatively about the service. I've seen this happen – especially when they only want the anchor text anyway.

Also you need to check whether they have actually checked out your sites content. A payday lender isn't going to want to advertise or link to a site that is going to slag them off every second post. Maybe point out to them some of your sites content and see if they reconsider. Alternatively, take the cash and see how long it takes for them to figure it out!

When my Page Rank went up to 4 I started getting a lot of these emails too.  I'm not complaining since it made me money.  Now that I'm asking for more money and being pickier about how the links are displayed I'm not selling nearly as many text links but I do have a few that pay me every month.  It is a nice bit of extra income.
