I was checking my stats via statcounter, when I noticed the referral link below:

Oh, apparently I've been listed as a site that allows dofollow posts. I
wonder if this means that I'm going to get hammered with shady guest
posts from sites using blackhat techiques…
I thought that was interesting and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen similar entries in their logs?

I haven't seen that in particular but I see plenty off comments that come from inlineseo dofollowdiver. I do follow my comments so I get plenty of spam comments trying to grab some juice.
I also use the WP SpamFree plugin which tells you the page where the commenter came from so when I see inlineseo I usually delete the comment right off.

Some sites compile lists of sites that allow dofollow comments and either sell them or offer them to readers for free.

I've noticed that from time to time I'll have a lot of spam comments on a particular article – then when I check what keywords lead people to my site that day, it will be something like: "this site uses commentluv: budgets".

In the past, I would expect to get more spam than ever, but…
Jason from Investitwisely.com and Kris @ everydaytipsandthoughts.com told me to use conditional captcha + akismet (which I was already using) to cut my number of Spam messages down from the hundreds that I was receiving daily. I now get about 5 a day.
Below is the stats (note that I installed Conditional CAPTCHA just a few months ago, so it's awesome).
Akismet has protected your site from 20,515 spam comments already.
There's nothing in your spam queue at the moment.
39,728 spam comments have been automatically discarded by Conditional CAPTCHA.

It's pretty common to see that if you dofollow your comments. There are several paid services that compile dofollow blogs and sell the list for a profit. It's easy cash because there are so many internet marketers desperate for links.

Conditional Captcha is great but rarely someone legitimate will end up there. It's very rare but I saw Darwin in there once on a rare occasion that I checked it. I guess he forgot the captcha or something that time ;)
I do have dofollow for my top 10 commentators… I still get some spam that fills out the captcha but not too often.

Lots of good information in here. Thanks for the tips guys. Luckily, akismet has been all I've needed so far, but I imagine that will change as soon as I post this to the forum.

Yep, conditional captcha is the way to go. I've had almost zero spam problems on my blog thanks to it, and I have a dofollow comment luv plugin enabled as well.
