Hey Everyone!

I am curious where you get your traffic from. I thought we could all share our top 10 traffic sources and that might help each other to discover new ways to get people to our sites. I will start off:

1. Direct

2. Pinterest

3. Google (organic)

4. StumbleUpon

5. Facebook

6. t.co referral

7. Google (referral)

8. Yakezie

9. MoneySmartGuides

10. m.facebook

What are the top ten sources of your traffic?

I just recently found out how to submit my posts on StumbleUpon through the Social Metrics plugin for Wordpress. In the past 7 days I have had 240 unique hits from Stumble upon. Who would have thought?

Have you written posts for Oregonlive.com? If not how are you getting traffic from their site? Thanks for chiming in!

Google/organic refers to organic search traffic. I believe that google/referral refers to things like people clicking through from Google Reader.

Yes – find the right sub-Reddit is the biggest one.  /r/financialplanning is a good one for most PF bloggers.  Second, don't just share your content – share other great content, post comments, and upvote/downvote others.   Finally, use a really catchy headlline, because all posts show up on the /r/new page for some time, and if you have a catchy headline, you're more likely to get a lot of traffic.

Thanks! I wish I could take credit for it but a few people with a lot of followers must have really liked this pin "10 Ways to Trim your budget" and now it has been re-pinned over 700 times. I just checked and in the past 30 days I have had 792 visitors from Pinterest and most of them are because of that one pin.

That would explain it! I had no idea that they had a financial planning category, that is awesome. Thanks for the tips!

I haven't done as much guest posting or carnival submissions as I should. Mostly it comes from commenting. There are about a dozen and a half blogs I follow regularly plus a handful of posts from twitter each day. I do try to prioritize sites that have CommentLuv installed. If you have a post that I have a good comment for, I'm going to comment regardless (unless the blog uses Intense Debate or LiveFyre). Otherwise another day. But if you have CommentLuv, I will sit there and think of a good comment to leave.

That is awesome! Another thing that I like about the Social Metrics plugin is that it tells you how many times a post has been mentioned on Social Media like Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Etc. This way I can see what people are sharing and what they are not. It has been super helpful in this regards.
