What are some of your guilty pleasures? | Bloggers Lair | Yakezie Forums

I was picking up my work shirts from dry cleaning and I had a moment where I thought to myself, how much would I save if i washed and ironed my own shirts.  To me the answer is not enough to change my action of taking my work shirts to the dry cleaner.

My new guilty pleasure is a hot lather shave! I came across an old-fashioned barber shop in a nearby town (they've been around since the 1890's) where I can get one for $15.

I remember going with my Grandfather to his barber & watching him get a shave when I was a kid. Sure, I could use my electric shaver at home…but there's something about leaning back in that chair that really appeals to me.

So as long as they don't go all "Sweeney Todd" on me one of these days, I'll keep going back. In fact, if you ever watch the videos on my site, you'll know I recently enjoyed a shave if I don't have a goatee!

Straight razor and all?  I wish.  That's an $80 service around here.   At home, I have a double-edged safety razor, a cup with pucks of shaving soap, and a badger-hair brush.   It's a warm lather when it goes on my face.   My little girls love helping me shave, even though I restrict them to running the brush for me.

We started using a housekeeper a couple of months ago.   I'm working so much (day job, blogging, 2 business ventures) that I didn't have time to help out much, so we hired out the help.  I love it.

I would love a housekeeper or at least someone to maybe come in once a month to do a good cleaning and we could do the light stuff throughout. 

@Jason $80?!?!?! Wow! Yes- they use the old-fashioned straight razor. It takes them nearly 40 minutes to do it all…and it's AMAZING! I was given my Great-Grandfather's shaving kit when he died- but I'd never use it. It's 100 years old & an antique.

@Evan They do offer the neck shave, too. I just haven't done that yet…maybe the next time I get a haircut.

It is not a guilty pleasure if you get real value out of it. It is just a pleasure. I work hard to afford the luxuries in life I want. I have had a maid in the past (and will surely go back at some point), I have had an occasional hot shave (about once a year), and take my shirts to the dry cleaners when they need it.

I am not guilty, I am happy.

I agree Eric, the trick is to not have too many pleasures, or to not have too many at the same time.  We are frugal on some things so we can enjoy other luxuries.
