What are the top 3 things you learn from Fincon12? It was great to meet so many bloggers in person and hang out. I bet everyone has a huge to do list. I want to share the top 3 things I learned from FinCon. Hopefully it's useful for those of you who couldn't make it. I'm curious what are the top 3 for other bloggers as well.
1) Figure out if your blog is a hobby or a business. (Why are you blogging?)
- If it's a hobby, then enjoy it and have fun with the bonus income.
- If it's a business, then you need to treat it like a business. Hire some help. Your business will be more valuable if you don't need to be there. Focus on doing the the things that you are great at and outsource the rest.
2) Figure out who your readers are and write for them.
- Don't write for other bloggers.
- Who is your target audience? Write articles that will help them. Change lives.
- Have a narrative/story. Connect with the audience through your story.
3) All about personal connection
- Reach out and make meaningful connection with other bloggers.
- Find the right partner/mentor/mentee and it will be a win/win situation for everyone.
Those are my top 3s. What did you learn?

I completely agree! Here were my top three take-aways:
1. Share your stories, and find your unique twist. That's what brings readers in. (in JD Roth's words: SEO is BS!)
2. The personal finance community is strong and growing. The Financial Samurai himself said this best: the pie is expanding. Continue to help each other out and build connections.
3. Meeting someone in person beats an online connection any day. And bloggers are a lot of fun to party with :)

These are things that I learned from the sessions and informal conversations in between sessions. I found the sessions to be great for tactical knowledge and the networking was great for long term planning.
1) Hire an intern before you pay for a virtual assistant. They get experience, you get to build your business.
2) Use HARO to get media attention for your blog.
3) Elevators are great places to meet big names. I met Liz Weston, J Money and several other interesting people just by chatting in the elevator.
I'm looking forward to next year already and brainstorming a speaker proposal topic.

Here are the 3 (of many) things that i took from FinCon12…
1. Use quality impactful headlines on your blogs
2. Make sure your blogs represent your personality and personal point of view
3. Think about what products or services you could offer that would add ‘value’ to your clients lives.

Awesome answers everyone!
1) The pf community is a lot bigger than I ever expected.
2) I noticed how passionate everyone was about their blog and helping out others with their blog/dreams.
3) That working for a company rather than I blog I can still make friends and build relationships.
more on a side note.
it was an awesome experience for me to go to Denver and see the faces behind the blogs. Lots of awesome and friendly people. I look forward to meeting more of you and hopefully working with more and more of you!!
