I mystery shop (not for a living:)); just for oil changes so far though. I like that I can essentially get free oil changes for life if I continue to do so. The first one will take you awhile, but then it gets easy and you can write it up in about half an hour.

So far I haven't seen "pay", just reimbursement for a service done. So my oil change up to around $36 is paid for (reimbursed via paypal). I know that others are far more successful at mystery shopping than myself. So far I just use intelli-shop

Thanks Hunter! I do enjoy the work. Ofcourse, working in regulations can get tedious, but it is a rewarding job. You have to be able to assert your authority and command presence though, which fortunately I am good at. Perhaps it's because I get a badge and it makes me feel more commanding…:).

I do lots of different types of shops. The most common ones are fast-food, gas stations, banks, and movie theaters. I like mystery shopping since I can choose my jobs and work when I want. It is difficult to make significant money though. I could probably make a living from it but I'd have to travel a lot and do lots of shops I don't like. For now it is just a nice bit of supplemental income.

You can make money from mystery shopping. Not that much–from what I've seen you might make $12 per assignment, but I think there are other people making much more than that.

Aaron, you can make decent money mystery shopping. I've made a few hundred a month the past few months doing mystery shopping part-time. One of my blogging friends makes thousands a month doing mystery shopping. It isn't easy to do but it is possible.

I work for the state government dealing mostly with surface water in the environmental quality division. It's interesting work, and I've learned quite a bit so far. Not everything that you read about in the papers is true (w fracking and other extraction methods) and some of the regulations truly are overkill.
Before this, I did database management and web development.

I manage the Student Financial Services office at a large (19,000+) public research university. I get to meet with parents and students every day and help them figure out how they are going to pay for college.
I love blogging, because it is an extension of a job that I love.

hey Jeff–neat! I am an air environmental investigator. However, I am deep in regulating oil and gas well sites, and so fracking is something I am interested in.
