I need some clarification about web self-hosting

If I decide to switch from the wordpress to a self-hosting website (my terminology might be off since I am not very knowledgeable in that area), I assume my ranking will be very high for the new website. I watch my blog ranking drop and I would hate to start everything from the beginning but I will do it if I have to.

So, I need some advise:

1. Would you switch from the wordpress blog now or later when you achieve the desired ranking?

2. Is it diffuclt to manage your own website?

3. How to make this switch as painless as possible)?

If you switch properly from wordpress you can set up some redirects and should experience only a brief rank drop….. I did it for a friend and it was fairly straight forward, she just had to pay for a wordpress.com redirection for a year I think from memory and the  a fairly standard move.

Anyway i would do it asap before you achieve desired rankings.

If I use Hostgator or Justhost do you know if I be able to do redirect from wordpress? Or should I use something specific in order to do that?

The sooner you do it the better.  Get more new links coming into the new hosting ASAP.

I agree with Forest and Craig – do it now so all new visitors will go to the new site. I'd hate to have a gorgeous ranking and then have to start from scratch. Do it now while you are getting a big boost from Yakezie!

I have done that move for friends a few times.  It is always a great decision if you are serious about long run blogging success.  Congrats on the move.  What is the new URL?

Just a quick suggestion: you might consider expanding your pages to have all of the links show so people don't have to search through the drop down menu.

I have some suggestions if I may :)

1) the right side feed not working, it is taking to the main page – I clicked on the right top  (may be its me?)

RSS GET MY
FEEDS

2) All you permalinks are set to http://aloysaskitchensink.com/?p=123

You might want to change that to include your post title which will have your keywords instead of having a post # helps with SEO. After you get a lot of links it will be a pain to do 301 redirects for everything, so the earlier the better.

Otherwise it looks great!

Today I just updated/switched my blogger blog to it's own Domain http://cents-to-save.blogspot.com/,  I did it through Blogger and purchased the name through "Go Daddy".  It said it would take up to three days for the transition to be complete.  Excited to see if the blog transitions smoothly. :)
