Hey guys,

Guess it was a matter of time, my emailbox is getting overrun with SPAM.  Random letters bunched in a row with no meaning.  Why do people do this?  Ridiculous! Yell  Any advice on how to deal with this irritating problem?

Yikes, what mail client are you using? Gmail seems to filter this pretty well.

Sorry should have been more specific.  I think bots are using my blog email form and flooding my mailbox with junk.  Was wondering if there is a plugin that can stop these SPAM bots.  CAPCHA is it?  Thanks! Laugh

I would disable it for now and replace with a simple email me here link….. Then look for a captcha plugin.

I use the Enhanced WP-ContactForm plugin that includes a simple math problem to filter out spam bots.  Good luck!

You could also remove your email address from your website. That should stop the spam emails.

Good point.  I list my email address as budgetingfunstuff *at* gmail *dot* com anywhere public usually.  :-)

I do the same. That keeps those Spam bots from automatically emailing me!

I use a Dagon Design contact form in conjunction with ReCaptcha.  It works well.

You'll also probably want one on your comment form.  I got hit with that one recently: one spam comment every two minutes for days.  Not fun.

TBH – I disabled email notification entirely.  I have enough going on in my inbox that I don't want to manage comments there as well.

When I log into WordPress I check the comments and respond.  I then move to other business such as writing the content I want to write or looking at the stats (which i'm not sure which I can trust!).

Oooh, I thought you were being hip.  Looks like it prevents SPAM bots, too! Smile

Gmail gets rid of most of them for me.  If it is really that bad, use a CAPTCHA.  I am in the camp that contact forms are better than posting your email.  They are more professional and a little more private.

Thanks!  Seems to have been killed off for now.  The culprit seems to be my email address on my contact page.  I modified it like Crystal's using "at" and "dot" com and the SPAM stopped. Smile
