Hi everyone,

 

I'm hoping you could help me. On my home and category pages, my theme adds a photo, a header and a summary.

 

However, the "summary" just takes the first few words of the post – which often do not look great…

 

For instance:

 

2014 Goals – February update of my 2014 goals

2014 Goals – February update of my 2014 goals At the start of November, I posted my 2014 New Year Goals & Resolutions. Check out my November update here. Check out my December update here. Check out my January update here.   2014 Goals – February update In summary so far:   Year to Date progress…

 

Instead, I would prefer to add the meta description for each post.

 

Does anyone know the php code to call the meta description rather than the summary for each post?

There is actually a box called "excerpt" that you can open in Wordpress.  You have to hit screen options and then click the excerpt box.  This will allow you to override the default excerpt length in Wordpress.  Since meta descriptions are usually using a plugin, it would be a real pain to put hook those together.  Since meta tags shouldn't be more than 160 characters, you should use the excerpt box and craft a summary there.
