Unfortunately, my friend Whitney is still missing. Had to take down the flier because there's so much inaccuracy and supposition floating around, I didn't want to fuel the fire.

The police press conferences are available in their full format here: http://www.kptv.com/story/1983…..suspicious

Please keep an eye out for her!

I apologize for not updating this sooner. Shortly after my last update my friend was found dead. She was "allegedly" murdered by her neighbor, someone who she was familiar enough with to offer a ride to work. I think it would be amazing as a community if there was some sort of personal safety awareness month that we could do. We focus a lot on protecting our finances and our personal freedoms, but it's all for naught if we don't protect ourselves.

oh my gosh. I'm so sorry for your loss. How devastating. I like your idea of raising more awareness on self defense and protecting ourselves.

Very sorry to have heard.  I followed the story after seeing your original message and I was very saddened with the outcome.  I pray for her husband, parents, siblings, friends and family.

I am so sorry for your loss.  This was definitely the opposite of the outcome I was crossing my fingers for…

Personal safety is hugely important.  Maybe you could pick a day in December that everyone can write about it…

Andi – I'm so so sorry to hear about your friend.  You're right – things like this jar us into thinking about the important things in life.  I would love to do a post on the them of personal safety.  I like Crystal's idea about picking a day in December so we can all plan.

So sorry about your friend. It's hard to imagine that she was killed by a neighbor, but unfortunately, not terribly uncommon.

Thank you everyone. I really love the idea of a safety day! In light of current events, I worry about people who are preoccupied with holiday shopping, not just because of the financial implications, but because people don't always pay attention and it's a time when people lose children, and themselves. Any ideas on good timing?

I know we've been discussing December, but as far as timing goes, I'm thinking early January might be good because readers will be open to non-Christmas related reading / in the mood for New Year's resolutions.  With that said, I'll participate no matter which day you choose.
