Hey there bloggers ~ Have any of you received an email from American Media Distribution looking for independent freelancers to cover events such as Music, Concerts, Sporting Events, Restaurant Openings, Movies, Gallery Openings, Shows, and others. Again, there is no cost for admission to any of the events, and no obligation is required.  I asked for more information from them, but I'm trying to find someone who might have worked with them to see if it is legit.

Thanks,

Kristia

Hi Kristia,

I have heard of them. I received the same email. They are real. These days when you get something that sounds to good to be true it is usually not, but that is their way of recruiting come to find out. They need reporters or people who can write in every city. They are like a temp agency for reporters. I joined and I got paid for a couple jobs I was out on. Not a full time position or anything. More like a side job or side fun.

Anyway, they are not a scam. They do get you into events as press. That is how you get in for free. Kind of better than paying for a ticket access wise anyway.

Been with them for a couple of months and it is going OK as I mentioned. Hard to find work these days.

I have not been with them long but feel free to ask me anything. If I do not know the answer I will ask them.

I also love how this person just happened to stumble on a forum post that is nearly a year old. Cue the "seems legit" meme pictures.

WOW- I was actually speaking to the other person with one post actually and not all of the wonderful people who answered! LOL. I was just trying to help. I did not finish setting up my profile yet. I just signed up. I am recently retired and just learning some of these things.

Also, there was no stumbling across anything. This blog comes up on some AMD related searches through search engines and I am always looking for other reporters to speak with and to get tips from. I am new to blogs / freelance reporting.

My son explained a bit more to me why you people attacked me like this. I guess because I was new to the blog and your question must have been to your friends and I was not one of them. If I am writing or replying to someone that I am not supposed to, like I need to friend you first I apologize. I thought these blogs were kind of an open forum, so if not I am sorry for replying to your question. I am not a computer person with 1000 blogs. Maybe I need to stay off of these things until I understand more.

I guess if it was negative no one would have had a problem with that. I was nothing but honest and anyone can check out the same sources i did.

I looked everywhere on the net, with the BBB and other entities and found out that American Media Distribution have been around a while, and there is not a single person that I could find on the net or with the BBB that said money was taken from them or they had any major problem with American Media Distribution.I can go back and get those links and references. Here is the BBB one.. http://www.bbb.org/new-jersey/…..j-90096055

My checks cashed just fine, and I shared my experience to date. They were very nice helping me get started and yes, if you want to say I am a fan I guess I am.BUT, I will keep my eyes open and as soon as something negative comes up I will write about it if I decide to even stay. Ha Ha.. Actually. I am not kidding. If anything happens to the contrary I will be the first to blog about it now that I am getting started out here in cyber world.

Several parts of your comments made no sense actually, if you are inferring I am some kind of insider for the company. I don't want to argue but simple logic that why would any company reply to a blog that is a year old, and for what reason as they don't sell anything whatsoever to the public?

I saw the question from the search and answered it. Simple as that.

No one over there asked me for any fees, so I am not even sure why an A.M.D. company person would write anything in a blog to try to "convince" anyone of anything. They are not selling a products or memberships as anyone can see from their site, or other sources around the net. I don't think they do anything at all with the general public. If you get an email from them simply don't answer the email if you have reservations or are scared to reply or call. I picked up the phone and asked them what the email was about. I would assume anyone that was curious would have done the same.

It's terrible these days that everyone is so filled with cynicism. People are really quick to come to snap judgments. I guess you have to be careful though with stray emails but the email I received from A.M.D. was really easy to check out.

I really was just trying to inform what might be a possible new fellow reporter. I really don't like being accused of trickery having no basis in fact, and that is the only reason I answered. No reason to answer me back, I understand now after it was explained to me why the comments but sorry, I do take things personally some times.

I am also sorry if I am from the old school where innocence is presumed before guilt. I guess I don't know what the "signs" are like all of you pro bloggers out there, but my son explained a bit to me as I mentioned. He said don't even bother to answer at all, but I like defending my honor and not being misunderstood as my work is getting out there.

I didn't say anything really that 10 minutes of research and a phone call could not find out. I could understand if they sold something or there was something I could gain by speaking well of them.

Also, I have no idea what "meme" pictures are or what byline I was supposed to do here. Again, sorry for my blogging ignorance if this is some kind of article sales or writer promotion site where my bylines need to be posted.

I hope everyone has a great week, and I will get my picture up soon as well. You will be asking me to take it back down!

KathyGene,

First, no one attacked you. We were just asking more about who you were. It's hard to know how much value your statement has if we have no idea who you are, especially if the promotion of some product or service is all positive. If you are wanting to talk to just one person, you can use the PM option from these forums.

Secondly, you have to understand that when a post is 1 years old and someone posts on it (who has never posted in these forums before), it is pretty much the case that that person is trying to promote some product or business. The average person wouldn't have stumbled across this thread – but only those who were looking for interactions on the internet about this company. The only reason why your motivations were challenged is because there are people who are new to this forums and some of us who have been around the block once or twice do not want anyone to be misled into something without thinking critically about the source of information. It's one thing to be working for a business and promote something, it is another thing entirely to pretend to be a satisfied customer and publish your own reviews – which is how it appeared for your response.

Since you are a freelance writer, I am sure you understand the part about validating sources.

Corey

Exactly why you received the response you did..you had to be searching for AMD. You still have not responded to another thread.

You still haven't really explained what they are paying you for.  Are you freelancing? If so, then where have your posts been published? on Yakezie sites?

Really? Why would anyone want to answer a year old question with a positive answer on a forum post that shows up on google results that works for the company in question.

Either way, just wanted to explain why I answered the way I did.
