I have not found a decent one yet that does it in post but Yet Another Related Post plugin does a good job of supplying a related post list below posts.

I use the Related Posts By Tags Widget and I like it so far. I've noticed a difference in the time on site and page views per user since I installed it.

I have used the SEO Smart Links plugin. I have mixed feelings about it. It works as advertised but you can't turn it off on specific posts.

Yet another related post plugin is great. It is one of the only ones that I have tried that seems to link to related posts rather than seemingly random posts

You have to set up which posts you want to link to and which key words. If you want I can help you with this. Just send me an email.

I have been linking exclusively to external related articles with some success. I do it all manually, so it does take time. I got this idea from the "build a better blog month" courtesy of Problogger. I think it builds goodwill.
