100 Things We Have Learned About Blogging

Up on our site right now we have 100 Things We Have Learned Since We Started Blogging: It promotes the Yakezie (and several of the Yakezie Members/Challengers sites) and is (in our humble opinion) a good starting point for debate/guide for newbie bloggers as it details things we have "learned" since we started our blog over two months ago.  (we kept a notebook from the start).

I feel like I am in shameless promotor mode right now, but the post took us a really long time to write and is nearly 7,000 words, so I want to make sure everyone who is interested can catch it, and maybe pass it along if they feel so inclined (particularly to less experienced bloggers) as it is more than just the ordinary post on our site.

Thanks! The link is: 100 Things We Have Learned Since We Started Blogging.

I have to say this is a very nice read. I really like how your points are quick, to the point, and fairly basic. I've read many of these blogging posts by new bloggers now and while they have all been helpful your covers a lot more breadth and little things that a lot of people wouldn't think about or might get discouraged about.

I'm not through all 100 points yet, but very well done!

I'm noticing a few typos and bad links as I'm finishing up the article now. I'll try to point out what I can remember:

- First I thought you made mistakes linking to your fellow bloggers because you were linking to specific posts of theirs but since this seems to be ubiquitious throughout the article, it must be intentional? Wouldn't it be better for them and your readers to link to their front page?

- You probably don't want "Wordpress.com" in this link anchor text: Nicole
and MaggieWordpress.com

- A lot of your links include punctuation in your anchor text, not sure if you care.

That's all I have time for now. Nothing too serious and the roughness of the post may even add to it … I actually enjoyed it. Makes me think I should be a bit more rough and personal in my writing … that would probably save me some time too.

Thank you for the early encouragement/extra tips.  I hope I was not too rough in my writing, but I had been working on it forever, and last night at 1:00 a.m., I just decided I needed to hit send, perfect or not (I figured quite far from perfect).  I will keep trying to make corrections and improve it.  That is the nice thing about the digital form.  Unlike, say…a brief that I have to write in my job.  Once the judge gets it, that is it.  I am concerned about the "Bad Links" although my linking to specific posts rather than the main page was purposeful, I was trying to highlight posts I enjoyed/recent posts and/or posts that related to our list.  I believe everyone has their own writing style and I really like yours Saving Mentor.  If anything, I could learn a lot from you when it comes to writing.  (I tend to have issues with being concise).  I think editing and re-editing will be key moving forward.

Thanks again!

Not sure you want to learn about being concise from me Surprised  Again, fantastic job! You made the right decision by hitting send when you did I think. Obsessing forever usually isn't a good thing.

Nice job here! I've retweeted as well…As I was reading this thread, I remembered something I read about the positives of doing long posts in series (i.e. it keeps readers coming back for more).

What's everyone's take on doing a post like this in a series format vs all at once? It might be easier to read all at once!

@The Saved Quarter – Thank you for your plan to feature our list in your upcoming round up.  I really appreciate that and your support of passing it along to a friend.

@KNS, @Moneysmarts, thank you for commenting on the site and for the positive vibe.

@Budgeting in the fun Stuff- Thank you for tweeting the post.  I know a few other sites tweeted as well and hopefully they have gotten my messages of thanks.

@My Personal Finance Journey – I never considered doing it in a series.  I think I am happy with doing it all at once.

Thanks again for everyone's support, promoting it, etc.  Please let me know when you need the same in return and of course I will be on the lookout for those opportunities anyway.  I know there were a ton of people in the Yakezie who could have done a better job making a list like this, so I appreciate the support despite those limitations.  Smile
