My Personal Finance Journey said:
Well, it's been one of my blogging-related goals for quite some time, but on Wednesday this week, I finally got a chance to speak about personal finances to a real life group of people outside the blogging world!
The group was a Wellness Class that was focusing on regular habits as a way to reduce stress levels, and the teacher of the class invited me to talk about regular financial-related habits that reduce financial stress.
It was a really great way to share some of the things I've learned blogging over the past few years, and I was particularly impressed with how much interest and respect the class attendees had for my ideas, regardless of the fact that I am just a PF blogger and not a "financial professional."
Overall, it was a very motivating experience to see how PF bloggers can really contribute good ideas and information to others. I'll definitely be looking for additional opportunities to speak at groups like this in the future!
I'm curious – has anyone has had success speaking with groups in real life about topics related to their blog? I'm beginning to think about what approaches to take in pitching this speaking service going forward, and would welcome any insight you all can give!
This is awesome Jacob! I've always wanted to start speaking to live groups as well (but haven't yet) - let me know how it goes! :)

Hi Jacob, Congrats, sounds awesome. Over the years I have done a variety of worshops and teaching. Of course, also teach investing at the university level. It's so fun, but like anything else, you need to put effort in to try to cultivate speaking gigs. (PS sorry, I didn't reply to the email, I was in Seattle all week)

Fantastic!
So how nervous were you? Although it does get better with time…It doesn't go away completely. Despite speaking/presenting to groups for nearly 20 years now (not for PF subjects though)- I still get a little flutter every time I go in front of a live audience.
But there's nothing quite like the feeling you get when they cheer/applaud for you though…it's like a DRUG! Hand me a mic…and I'm ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!

Not too nervous, but I definitely understand what you mean! I think that no matter how many times I speak in front of people, there is always a little bit of good nerves present right before!

Exciting stuff – speaking engagements. I was toying with the idea of someday offering a small one day – couple hour class via our local communiversity type program. Not for credit classes, usually for adults on nights or weekends. Has anyone had experience with those?
