Talk about a rating system I don't understand …

Technorati has us ranked @ 593 – but #2 in the Finance category.

I can't get Technorati to recognize me as a financial blog (or really any category of blog).  I have a rank, but I don't show up in the space category that I blog in.  I'm thinking about deleting my account and trying again.

Very frustrating.

Oh, your financial catagory score in Finance on Technorati is over 900.

I thought you were having a problem with Technorati like I am.  Nice job, I wish they would recognize me too in the finance category.

I'm sure my problem is a setup issue…

That's awesome! I'm typically in the top 100 for Finance, but #2 is amazing!

Their ranking is based on the link backs that you received that week that they track.  So you can be #1 today and #55 next week.  It's not based on traffic or anything.

Thanks Sandy.  Likely due to our article about 4 Decades of Making Money Online.  Quite a few track backs on that one (and a few others).

Congrats SPF. That's great. I rank #6 in the same category. Guess it should help with our traffic. It does fluctuate though.

Way to go on that!  My rank on Technorati has been moving so much.  I was #5 in Finance, but I usually hang out on page 2 (10-20), but lately I've been down in the 30s.

Congratulations!  I never know where I am going to end up on Technorati each week!  Number 2 is fantastic.

Technorati is so erratic. I have been on top 10 for quite some time now, then one day I wasn't even in the top 100, after a week I came back to top 10. I am a top 100 blog in finance, business and travel. No idea how they rank blogs. But not complaining though :) Lot of other ranking system use this (Money crashers) so I am happy with my ranking…

They used to use unique links from other blogs in the last 6 months to keep track of authority. So it changes quite quickly. They have probably changed how they work since I last looked at it now. I find the system really confusing, but I like the idea behind it.

I used to be pretty high on Technorati, but I haven't checked in a while.

Thanks to this thread for reminding me to follow through on adding my blog.  I messed up the feed code a few times, and forgot all about it.  Anyone know if they'll use data for the past few months, or does it start once you're on Technorati?

I'm #19 this week! Yippee! Usually I'm way down in the 50s. Technorati is really erratic from week to week.

I guess I am not the only one who doesn't understand the various rankings.  It is all very confusing when you are looking for some objective measurement of how you are doing.  Does anybody have a particular website that they feel is objective?

No website suggestions here. But I decided to just stick with traffic and revenue as my progress measure. May be a stupid decision but there are too many rankings…

I like MozRank the best out of the ranking sites. All the other sites are too erratic/inaccurate.

Google Analytic is the real measuring stick for me. As long as I continue to gain traffic, it's all good.
