Day 3 – Promote a Post

Take a little time to look at
yesterdays post and ask yourself where it might be appropriate to
promote it. If you look at the post and don’t think that it is really
worthy of promotion anywhere – feel free to choose another relevant
post to do it with. If you don’t have one – spend some time today
writing something that you feel IS link worthy and then try promoting
that.

I wrote a list post yesterday, Top 5 Worst and Best Baby Shower Gifts. To promote it, I've submitted it for a carnival and next week will link it up to two mom-blog link-ups. I've also put it on my Facebook page (I'm not on Twitter). I added internal links to improve SEO and hopefully bring up page views, which aren't as strong as I would hope.

How are you guys promoting your list posts?

I promote by submitting most of my posts to various carnivals. I occasionally ask others to promote some of my posts on Tipp it. I requested more promotion previously when we had the google forum. Occasionally I ask some of my blogging buddies to promote specific posts. I regularly submit links to Obllivious Investor and Len Penzo.

Feel free to send me links to promote your posts, I really enjoy promoting others posts!

I submitted my list post to Tipd.  I would love to get a tip if you would be so kind – http://tipd.com/Personal-Finan…..to-wealth/

Do you guys know of any sites like Tip'd but for business related articles?

Thanks,

Fred

I always share my posts on twitter. I try and submit my own stuff to those places that don't penalize self submissions, and then ask others to promote my submission afterward. I do this with my own, and any other post from anyone I find interesting.

I mentioned it on these forums. I also have my blog connected to Twitter using the Twitter Tools plugin, so that each blog post is automatically tweeted.

I will submit it to Joe Plemon's Yakezie carnival for this week, as well.

I have Twitter automatically setup for every post.  Other than that, I submit 5 posts to blog carnivals every week (or every other week when I get extremely busy).

Can someone provide a list of personal finance blog carnivals? I know of two, but it sounds like there are a lot more that I should be submitting articles to.

I regularly submit to Best of Money Carnival, Carnival of Personal Finance, Carnival of Money Stories, and Festival of Frugality.  There are a ton at Blog Carnival dot com and you can search by Money and Finance:  http://blogcarnival.com/bc/clist.php?id=0&directory_id=16&keyword=&sort=4

Thanks, that was very helpful. I've gotten at least a few readers from the Carnival of Personal Finance, so hopefully I'll have the same luck from the others.

I just submitted to 2 carnivals.  I also always post a link on my twitter.

Questions… is there another place to submit to carnivals besides blogcarnival.com?

I've submitted to lots of carnivals, but I don't always get my post accepted.  Is there a way to increase my odds?  I always follow the rules that they give!

The Carnival of Personal Finance seems to only have their own website and submission form.  I think one of the others I listed is that way too.  Otherwise, all the ones I know about are on blogcarnival.com.

In regards to acceptance odds, I find that it completely depends on the host.  I only seem to be accepted 50% of the time too…I have no idea if they just run out of time and delete my entry or if they think my post sucks.  I decide not to worry about it and just try again the next week since there is way too much drama in my life already, lol.

I'm bumping this for June Build Your Blog Month, and I'd like to promote my new "Cut Your Budget" series, starting with Thursday's post cutting Erin's budget. I've shared it on Facebook and Twitter and would love it if you guys could share it in your round ups, post it on Facebook or Twitter, or via other social networking. :)

I just tried something different for me.  I put part of my last post on facebook.  I'm crazy new to using facebook for business – does it look ok?

@ FMV – I liked your FB page – it will grow fairly rapidly. FB happens to be my single biggest referral source. I don't know exactly why, but some of these might help people to click on your articles:

  • Images are thumbnails on FB – they must look colorful, bright, attractive without too much detail, and the more they look like a button, the better. An awesome panographic picture might look great on a full screen, but as a thumbnail it doesn't have the same attraction.
  • Don't post too often – Twitter is great to spam a little, but not on facebook.
  • Attach text in the link, but no more than 3 lines. Facebook has a 3 line golden rule. Any more is a big no no.
  • Be consistent – once a day does the trick.

I find my luck is better if I submit to carnivals early in the week.  If I wait til Friday or the weekend then I almost never get in.  Almost everyone waits til the last minute to submit so if you can be ahead of the pack you can at least get your post read by the host.

This is a great tip! I hadn't thought about the time of the week influencing it, but I'll give it a try.

I have a plugin that makes everything I post to Facebook show up on Twitter. I'm not sure how I did it, followed some tutorial, but it makes it easy to promote once and hit twice.
