Happy August everyone!

Checking in for July:

* Launched FS Forum. Going slowly but surely and has helped the Forum community who have been paying attention make a good chunk of change in the stock market as we kept on top of SINA, BIDU, and RENN during their 20-50% ramp since May vs. a 5% gain in the overall markets. This is probably the biggest thing I'm excited about, slowly getting more eyes and ears on stocks so we find more opportunities. X Factor in a bull market where you can make a ton of money if you take some risks.

* Went traveling for four weeks with iPhone and maintained the 5K/words a week in July. Posted my experience on Yakezie.com

* Got a 100+ comment post How Do People Live A Comfortable Life Making Less Than Six Figures In Expensive Cities. Fun to document travels through pictures and writing so I won't forget what happened.

* Planted seeds for a new business initiative that should have a soft launch by October.

Cheers

Looks like you had quite a month! I am most impressed by you not taking a laptop on holiday, I can't type fast on an iphone, so would rather carry the weight of the laptop and have more time on the holiday. Although I guess you cut more drastically on what you would do and not do online.

Pauline – Ever since my favorite shoes got swapped for old sneakers when I was 12 I just hate carrying anything as valuable anymore! It's funny how we are so shaped be experiences of our youth. Good luck with your new site!

I just wanted to say that, although I'm not even close to participating in this summer challenge, it is still keeping me motivated. I just missed my second post in the last month and also in the entire time I've been part of the Yakezie family. I was wondering if I should drop down to twice per week until things die down. But then, on my break, I was checking the forum and there was a new post on this thread and I thought to myself, if other people are putting out 5k+ words and getting other stuff done, the least I can do is manage 2500!

Having worked in floriculture and agriculture for 4 years, I read the first two words of this line and thought to myself, "July is an odd time to start a garden, what is Sam growing, soybeans?" :)

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Thank you Sam. I would never put a laptop as checked luggage so the only risk would be have it stolen at a hotel, and while other items of mine have disappeared, so far the laptop has survived, I think it is pretty obvious that it is missing, better steal cash, jewelry or smaller items, but I get your point, it is extra worry and precautions you have to take.

@Pauline & @Sam- I have a small netbook I take when I travel in the USA. Since I keep all my files on google drive or dropbox the small memory isn't a problem. I had an amazing time in Peru without any internet connection. (Had Amanda-rugal Confessions and Jesse-Anti Necktie & manteresting) handle the site. PURE FREEDOM and great way to clear your head!
