A Few Tips to Boost Your Traffic in 2011

Hey guys,

I thought of sharing another piece of advice with you. I'm not a professional blogger (yet) but I have successfully build a blog network of 200,000 visitors/month. Here are some thoughts:

Guest Post

This is probably one of the best way to get more long term readers to your blog. However, there are several rules to follow in order to write a good guest post that will bring you traffic and readers. Here's a great read to start with:

http://www.blogthority.com/169…..uccessful/

Along with this great read, I would suggest to offer your best articles to bigger bloggers. Take your time to write it, make sure it doesn't include grammatical mistakes (as in this thread… sorry I'm French ;-) ). Here's an example of one of my guest post that was published on John Chow (one of the biggest Canadian Blogger):

http://www.johnchow.com/how-to…..fficiency/

I simply emailed the guy with my guest post attached and I asked him if he wanted to publish it. If your content is good, big bloggers will publish it. Don't forget to include 1 link to one good article you wrote on your site and to add your RSS feed link at the bottom of your post ;-)

Commenting

You know that by now, however, what you may not know is how, when and where to comment.

How: your comment must be smart and get other readers wanting to click on your blog (don't plug your articles, but you can say that you have written something about it on your blog).

When: if your goal is to get traffic/readers, you need to comment in the morning. If you comment at the end of the day, most people won't look at your comment (if you are #23 for example, people are lazy, you should know that ;-) ).

where: I prefer commenting on blog related to my topics (e.g. personal finance/investment/make money online). I wouldn't comment on frugal blog as those readers won't like my blog anyway. I also look for:

- bigger blogs than mine (get more readers)

- comment luv plugin

- do follow link for commenters

- top commenters posted on the homepage

SEO

doing keyword research and search engine optimization is a real job by itself. However, this may be the key for some of your post in order to rank higher with the big G. My advice; don't try to write for the machine, you will make boring articles ;-). You may rank high in Google, but your posts won't be interesting and your new visitors won't stick around. If you are targetting a specific keywords;

- use it in the title of your article

- try to put it in bold once in a while in your text

- try to use it in your subtitle

- use H1 and H2 tags

All right, I got to go now, anyone has good tips to boost your traffic in 2011?

Wow, great tips! I'm slowly building my site and am currently drooling at the idea of having 200,000 visitors in a month! I am doing most of the things you have suggested and am at about 50 visitors per day. Hopefully if I stick with it, I'll get the same visitor numbers as you!

if you get the right guest posts on the right place, you can go up to 100/day easily :-)

Thanks for the tips.

I try to do my reading each morning and comment on 5 to 20 sites.  I'm not sure how much it is helping thus far but it is a habit i've been able to keep up.

I added a top commentors widget after reading your advice.

I think we need to be better with SEO, we don't really plan for it at all.  I add keywords to the SEO plugin and i'm a pretty effective googler so I think we use good keywords, but who am I to know.

We don't use subtitles of H1/H2 tags (use H4 usually) but this isn't usually related to our keywords.

I also like to spin some articles and submit them to ezines.  I get great residual traffic plus backlinks for those.

re: guest posting

We've decided to work on guest post exchanges – scratch each other's backs so to speak.  We need to keep producing content for our site and can't post in detail daily, so we try to exchange guest posts.  In the next month we are hoping to do so w/ 3 yakezie members.

We will also try to do a guest post on a bigger site to gain some exposure in early Feb. (one way – he has no time to post on our tiny site hehe)

Wow! 200k visitors per month is incredible for a PF site! I just submitted my first ever guest post yesterday to Free Money Finance. We'll see if it gets approved! For me, it can be tempting to publish my best articles on my own site (I guess I can be selfish), but I've realized that I need to get past that and get myself out there!

200K is for my network (I have about 5 PF blogs).

yeah I know it's tempting but sending ordinary articles will generate ordinary results ;-)

It's tempting to hold back your best content for your site. But its better in the long run to give away great content ia guest posts. You never know who may see it.

I totally agree with this! I've only ever done one guest post and it was for Young And Thrifty and it got picked up by the Globe And Mail from there sending her a ton of traffic and me a decent chunk as well. It was probably one of the best articles I've written to date.

By "spin" you mean run articles through a synonym program?  Or do you mean write?

I rarely guest post.  Maybe it is a confidence thing, I don't know.  I know I need to do it to grow.  Maybe it will be a goal for this year…

I have to admit that I have never guest posted either.  I agree that it's definitely a confidence thing with me.  I need to break out of my shell though if I want to successfully promote my travel blog.  Thanks for the great tips….I'm printing this out and hanging it in my office.  Wink

I guess the key is to write about what you really love, the rest will follow :-)

this gives me an idea to write another thread in this forum… look for it ;-)
