I have no clue how to handle this situation.  If anybody has any advice on the subject I would appreciate their insight.

Is this something I should be willing to do for free because of the exposure (lets face it, my site is pretty small and the exposure could be useful)

If the subject of compensation does come up, how do I handle it?  Do I charge by article?  What is a fair initial price?

They have also asked about reprinting articles that appear on my website.  Should this be a concern?

Express interest and put the ball in their court.  Ask them what kind of engagement they are looking for.

Are you sure you are being hired? Debt consolidation companies and payday loan companies are KING of trying to run this scam.  They get all your content for the honor of appearing on their "blog" (which by the way does not appear on their home page sometimes not even a link thereto).  If you are doing it for exposure get a google analytics screenshot.

That sounds exciting. Try to get more information and insist on a clear contract if you haven't heard anything more. I would ask for compensation. You're spending your time to write after all, and they should compensate you for that. Best of luck!

First of all, be sure that the offer is genuine by doing research into the magazine and the agency dealing with the request.

Secondly, just ask them. They have much more experience in this than you. Ask them what type of engagement this is and what the remuneration terms are for it. If they say that its for free, then weigh up whether it is worth your while for the promotion. If they state a figure they are willing to pay you per article, even better!!
