Blogroll exchange is a great way to appreciate bloggers you read and also help each other to get links, no doubt about that. But I do have to ask everyone to be careful about who you accept to link in your blogroll.
There are some link farms (mostly they have posts for the sole purpose of linking to their other business). Essentially all posts in their blog are sponsored posts. These "blogs" won't become members because they have to go through a review process but that doesn't stop them from becoming challengers and exploit other challengers.
Go through their posts and who they link to. If all their post only link to other business and none of the links is to other bloggers, you should be alert.
Go through their blogroll, if they link mostly to other business and the only links they have is from other link exchanges, please please be careful in linking to them.
These exchanges will only harm you, not help you. Don't take it in the wrong way. I wish if I were linking to a link farm in a good nature way but all I am doing is harming my own blog, I would want others to point me in the right direction. That is all I am doing here. Just remember because someone is a challenger DOESN'T mean they are worth your trust without further thought. At the end of the day, it is your blog and your choice who you link to.

Ahh yes, link farms. Gotta watch out for those. I actually never got around to creating a blogroll, but when I do, I will keep this in mind. Thanks Suba!

Thanks for the tips Suba. I too don't have a blogroll but if I ever start one these will come in handy.

I only link to people who I read and follow myself. I'd never promote someone I didn't respect or like reading or simply for the link. I'm actually rethinking my blogroll page…not sure how worthwhile it really is.

Thanks for the reminder, Suba. I personally read nearly every blog on my blogroll, but this post reminded me to check out a few recent additions and weed out a few that reek of link farm manure. :)

Thanks for the reminder!
I usually get at least 1 request a week to add some bogus site that I've never heard of to my blogroll. Of course I never do
Someday, we'll have to develop a Yakezie Newbie User Guide that warns new sites of all the concerns like blogroll and spam tricks. I remember Evan raising the alarm about false awards to everybody. After a few weeks, it made sense and I took mine down.

Just a side note – if you are in doubt feel free to email one of the black belts or administrators and ask them their opinion. We're all quite happy to help you out with an opinion if you just ask us. I will answer any/all questions about my opinion on a site that you want to include in your blogroll.

My blogroll on my front page is just for sites I really do read regularly (have not updated the list in a long time). I also have a page linking to the Yakezie folks.

I have two separate pages linking to PF blogs and the Yakezie compared to a formal blog roll. However I haven't updated either for quite a while.

I have a yakezie page with a custom search to just search the yakezie blogs to link to. I have not updated that in a month, will have to do that…
I agree with the others on the offer to give our opinion. Anytime, have any questions, I will be happy to help.
