Depends on the size of the banner, and whether or not they want it above or below the fold.  More specifics would help.

I do have a question for all the bloggers out there… I have a business that wants to include two banners on my page, above the fold, and they are willing to pay accordingly.  However, they want me to remove my adsense blocks so they dont compete with them.  Has anyone ever had this request? What do you think about it?

though not experienced but think this is genuine request. Do notice all A listed bloggers not displaying ad-sense.

If revenue from the advertisement request is greater than the revenue from Adsense, it makes perfect sense. I can see why they would want above the fold ads to replace your current Adsense.  There's nothing odd with that at all.

The only downside to private ads is that they're usually flat rate.  If your site grows, but you have an agreement in place, you might just end up serving them way more inventory than they paid for.  The upside is that you get the same amount of cash regardless of traffic.

I've heard of that being proposed before. It's just important to look at what you're currently making in adsense and make sure that they pay a little of a premium for the better space.

I agree with Jacob–if you are making little with adsense, definitely take it down for now and make more money this other way. You can always switch it out again at the end of the contract terms.

I'd suggest s short term – like 3 months.  Then see how your SE traffic is.  Getting caught in a 12 month contract/deal then seeing your numbers spike could be rough to swallow.

I actually think the advertiser wants to do month-to-month, which would be fine with me…no discount offered at that point, and I can monitor my search engine traffic.

I really make nothing on adsense, but it's funny that I was asked to take it down yesterday, and then at the same time I have the most clicks in one day ever.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Since you don't make much in Adsense right now, I think this would be a great move, especially since you will have a short term agreement. If you get a huge surge in SE traffic, then you can rethink the deal.

They sent me two banner ads, but they are in JPG format.  How do I turn them into code that I can post in a widget?

MITR, upload your images and get the url

then add a text widget to your sidebar, paste this

<a rel="nofollow" href="url of the company"><img src="url of the image" /></a>

(if they want a dofollow banner, just remove the rel part)

<a href="url of the company"><img src="url of the image" /></a>

SPF, thanks! I appreciate your help during the process as well.

Of course I have yet ANOTHER question for all the helpful people out there…. has anyone here ever dealt with Brad's Deals and direct advertising?  I would love for you to email me at justinweinger @ aol.com.  I need some advice.

Thanks!

Thanks Dave.

Jon,  I have been contemplating running a side gig securing advertisements for other blogs for percentage of what I am able to secure.  I know Crystal does something similar, and I hate "competing" with any other yakezie…but I have had a lot of luck seeking out my own advertisers, two deals I have secured this month alone came from my own research.  I turned down another because I didn't like the offer, and I have two more pending at the moment.  I really feel like I could give a hand to some fellow bloggers who want to see a little revenue coming in.
