I recommend the WordPress SEO plugin by Joost De Walk. It does a very good job.

Are you guys just using Google Analytic to figure these numbers out? they count your own visits too right? because you do that a lot when you edit.
Your visits won't come under SE visits anyway. If you mean overall visits includes your own visits? then yes. You can exclude your IP though - http://www.google.com/support/…..swer=55481

It took me a year before anything major started happening with my blog. And once I joined Yakezie I got more exposure and made some great new friends. I came to terms with the fact that things take time and now I think I blog for the friendships I have the most. The money and SEO is just a side benefit.

It took me about 6 to 8 months after I started writing consistently.

It seems like 6 to 8 months is the sweet spot for some reason, wonder why..

I have noticed the same thing. With me, that is when Google finally gave me a PR so I really think that helped. I also got lucky and hit on a couple popular topics around that time, which gave me a nice boost. Having a good stockpile of published articles also helps. So I guess it is a combination of things, though I still think the PR helped me the most in terms of search engine traffic.

yes, it took me a good 8 months before seeing any quantifiable results. It was very frustrating during those 8 months because I'm a results oriented person. For 8 months, I thought of giving up almost everyday. So glad I kept at it.

I've been running Financially Consumed for 5 months and I'm not there yet. SE traffic is very sketchy. I am aware that I need to pay greater attention to SEO. Some articles generate a LOT of SE traffic, but that is more by luck than skill.

6 month mark was about right for me too. I heard 1 year gets a jump too, looks like I missed that. And SE traffic has seasons so it will take one full year of post to hit all the seasons (tax, holiday related posts etc).

I think there's much to the idea that it takes a while to get search engine traffic to spike up. For me, was at the 9 or 10 month time frame.
In January (site 9 months old, approximately) my site had about 3,000 visitors – of which 1,000 were from search. So, about 33%.
In August, my site is on track for at least 9,000 visitors - of which over 5,000 should be from search. So, around 55%.
This is one of those things that seems to take time, for whatever reason. It seems like being established and having a lot of posts helps. Also, the more posts you have, the more high ranking/high traffic posts you might have as well.

That's encouraging to hear squirrelers, especially since im at the 3,000 visits and 33% SE traffic mark right about now.

Interesting discussion, when we go up in ranking, someone has to go down, question is, who? Current upper rank holders will become older as well, so they should go up too, isn't it?
Where is the balancing act? Or, my brain just not working?

It took me about 6 months to get to around 30%.
Now I'm pretty consistent at 33%. I'm use one of the SEO plugin and do some internal linking, but I know it could be much better.

Justin, that's interesting how your overall traffic of 3k visits includes the same percentage mine did at that time. While the increase to 9k and 55% has been nice, I've been thinking that my site's getting quite dependent on search as that's been growing at a much faster rate than referring sites or direct traffic. Goes to show how much influence the Big G has on our blogs!

If I recall correctly it took me almost 6 months plus before I started seeing significant traffic via search engine. It probably took longer because I had no clue what I was doing when I got started!
