Alexa rankings have been trending upwards for FamilyMoneyValues now for over two months. In mid-November I was close to 100,000 – now it's back up to around 113,000.
I haven't been doing much of anything differently so am curious if anyone else has noticed a similar trend – and wondering if there has been a change to the way the Alexa rankings are done…..
Thoughts?

I am not exactly sure but I think it might be just leveling off.

My feeling is that Jai is right – it is a three month average and it is possible that one has 'inflationary' pressures somewhere along the way (often in the last month). It is a very rough estimate anyway!

I think it may have to do with the Holidays still being calculated in the 3 month average -that's the case for me anyways. The week in between the holidays can be the lowest in the year (or so it seems). Unless you have really high alexa traffic, it won't compensate. Once March comes around, you should see a lower alexa if everything else stays the same.

I agree with the rest, it is most likely leveling off mostly due to the holidays, 3 month averages get tricky. hopefully it become more stable in the coming months

I think with the holidays what it is happening is that a lot of e-commerce sites are advertising more heavily, which temporarily improves their alexa ranking. As those companies scale back their advertising they fall back and others jump past them. Of course with so many websites doing marketing year round, it is only natural that lots are improving year round. It reflects why actual traffic levels are much more important than an inaccurate scale like alexa rankings.

Mine have actually been going the right way but I attribute it largely to getting off Blogger and over to WordPress in December. I realized I was losing a lot of hits as commenting and other clicks within the site actually gave Blogger.com the juice. So, I'm right around 110k which I'm excited about.

Mine went back up a little bit- know it'll fluctuate and it's not the end of the world (I promise) now if your Google PR starts going down the toidy (slang for toilet) then you should be worried. Alexa is very subjective and can change very easily…it's still low so you're golden.

My Alexa has been pretty stagnant for the last few months but my traffic is increasing. I just attribute it to more non-Alexa users frequenting my site. Which is also a good thing!

I agree with Jana. Mine has been increasing a bit, but traffic is increasing too. We just have to keep in mind Alexa is as Alexa does (only counts people who have the toolbar installed, which, in most cases, include other bloggers and advertisers).
