Hey all. I thought I had the whole Alexa thing figured out, but it seems that I might be less of an expert than I gave myself credit for. Over the last few months, my score has declined steadily. I did have a big traffic decrease from Google Panda, but my Alexa had seemed to be steady for a while. Any ideas on why I am losing ground there? My one month ranking is well below my three month average, so I am nervous to see what will happen if I don't make any changes.

Were you previously participating in the "groups"? Are you still doing so?
How about commenting on other peoples sites? Still doing that?
I found our Alexa creeping up late summer so I joined the "groups" and got back to leaving more comments and the ranking has dropped down again.

Ditto to what SPF said. I too have found all of those avenues very helpful. Submit to lots of carnivals too. That has also helped me.

My alexa keeps creeping back up again even with my group, so I don't know what's going on

I was never good at commenting and have been making an effort lately. Never participated in any of the groups, but I am in a small group with a couple other bloggers now supporting each other's blogging efforts. Kind of like a 4-way blogging buddy system.

Sounds like a piece of cake. I'm always up for helping out. :) Count me in. There's no reason I can't add a few more blogs to the everyday list.

If you guys start another group I want in. Groups have done wonders for me in the last 2 months. If you want your Alexa score to go down. Get in a group, leave quality comments and promote your group religiously. I should be the poster child for groups lol

Eric,
Alexa can help you determine the change in your ranking. If you go to the 'Clickstream' tab you will see that most of your visitors enter and leave your site through Yakezie. So, this would lead one to conclude that your ranking is largely dependent on traffic originating from here. This might be more sporadic versus your regular readership.

My alexa rank tends to bounce around a lot. Participating in the groups and commenting does seem to help stabilize it at a certain point but it's never gone below 70,000 even when I've had a ton of traffic.

My Alexa has dropped about 30,000 since starting in the groups this time. I guess it would have been worse if I weren't participating in the groups. I'm guessing the drop is because I've been posting less and commenting on the Yakezie forums less but it still seems like an afwully fast drop.

I seem to have hit a wall last week. Everything was going fine, and I was about to break into the 60's and all of a sudden, I started slowly pulling back. And that is including my best week ever in terms of visitors and pageviews thanks to a couple of well-timed post mentions. It's not a drastic change, but it's weird to see that all of the traffic seems to have done nothing positive in these terms, but that's also why I don't rely heavily on this one metric.

I'm currently in a Yakezie fall team, but I'm up for joining another. My Alexa rank has also risen steadily from a low of around 77,000. Perhaps it's because of less commenting, although I've been trying to be consistent in supporting the fall group and now submitting to carnivals with Corey's (of 20's Finances) service.

My alexa has been going up too which is annoying. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their algorithm or something as it seems to be changing for a lot of people. I'm trying not to focus on the numbers too much because getting obsessed with stats really takes the fun out of blogging and I don't want that!

My Alexa is rising too! Boo!! Maybe it is the time of year and everyone is too busy because of the Holidays! I bet it will improve the first of the year.

Same for me. I was SO CLOSE to dropping under 50k, now suddenly I'm back up around 53k. It's driving me insane!

Today our Alexa rank went up by 1,000 or so points for the first time since November, 1. We were just under 250,000 (started at 709,000) and now it is over again. We have fewer visits and fewer comments. Suppose people are busily shopping or whatever people do at Christmas time.
I knew that I am not just a miserable sod and there is a good reason for me to dislike Christmas so much. And it isn't even about the Alexa rank – I am starting to miss the buzz and excitement that is around normally.
Oh, well…it will be over soon.
Maria
