I have been approached by a reputable site that would like to repost some of my original content in full on their site.  The other site is a consolidator of the best PF articles on the net.

The benefits to me are:

1. greater referral traffic

2. exposure to new readers

3. one more channel of distributing content

4. networking

The downsides are getting penalized by google for duplicate content on two different domains and potentially having search traffic siphoned off by the other site.  Are these concerns legitimate?

Possible compromises I have considered include:

1. Asking for rel="canonical" links back to my original articles so that I get the google search traffic and indexing.

2. Asking that any republication at the other site be limited to long snippets of a few paragraphs max with links back to the original article.

Thoughts?  How have you handled similar situations in the past?

It totally depends on the site and circumstances. Stacey at MoneyTalksNews is an active source for syndicated content, but he is paid generously by sites like the Mint.com blog and Yahoo News for their use of his content.

I had a similar situation – being asked to post one of my posts on another site. I asked if I could rewrite the article – similar content, different words – then linked to the original post on my site. I've gotten a lot of traffic this way.
