For those who think about Aweber or MailChimp, here is my 5 cents input. On one site I use Aweber. For another site I use MailChimp. In summary for me:
- MailChimp is great and free (till a certain number of subs).
- Aweber cost you a little bit, offers easier publishing of signup forms on your site and keeps the traffic more on your site.
Both are great tools with easy access to all email addresses that have signed up for your list. Let me know if you have any specific comparison questions.

Do you know if you can transfer a mailchimp list over to aweber? I went with mailchimp because of the free option. This works for now, but I don't especially like how things like the confirmation page are on mailchimp's site. Once my subscriber list builds up, I will probably consider a paid option instead.

I am not sure but expect that you can export a list from MailChimp and import it into Aweber. Potential obstacles are: "Let MailChimp export you the list from a free account? and "How do you tell Aweber that all these email addresses had a double opt-in?" I think that Aweber support is the best place to ask the question.

I suspect I may have to manually enter them into the new account. Also I wouldn't be surprised if they each had to click a confirmation link again. I will keep that in mind and maybe switch over when growth occurs, but before the numbers are too big. Thanks Van Beek!

I think that if you contact their support and explain that the first list was already a double opt-in, that Aweber can get things set for you. I contacted their support recently and found them extremely helpful.

As Jackie said, Aweber is skeptical about other lists as they recommend a double opt in process to ensure your emails go through all the spam filters out there.
When I had a separate list, I added them manually and they had to re-opt in and to confirm they wanted to be there.
I use my newsletter to give extra information-I have an autoresponder set up that gives people a Mini-course on setting up their personal finances. My monthly newsletter is geared more towards motivation.
