Hi. I will be hosting a carnival for the first time next weekend, and I was wondering if any of you mor experienced carnival hosts have any words of advice for me. Thanks!

Try to make each inclusion unique if you have the time to do so. It will show you read the submission and give the reader a reason to read your take on each article. Much better than the cookie cutter BloggerXYZ at BlogABC tells us BlogTitle.

Yes, keep it unique. Like SPF said, expand a little. I recommend using a unique theme. For example, if it's around Xmas, do something themed appropriately. Let us know when it's up, looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Don't wait til the last minute to start reading through submissions. Usually you'll get a lot at the last minute to begin with and if you wait you'll be sorry.

I agree with all of the other suggestions- especially Mike's about getting ahead. Depending on how many submissions you get it can get really overwhelming to read through them in one day.

The idea of a theme usually works great. I did one on President's day and used presidential quotes that corresponded with each category.

Definitely try to get ahead if possible. Ask for submissions and build the carnival as you receive them. It's much easier to process 5 or 6 entries at a time rather than 50!

I like to break up the list in shorter sections or color-coded groups. I think it helps the eye focus down the page. It's easy to get lost on some carnivals with a long list of identical looking sentences.

I like to include a fun theme to make the reading easier. Also, don't feel bad about deleting entries that are not related to the carnival or are from for-profit sites / companies.
