Hi all,
Just curious how you are dealing with this challenge. Support from fellow Yakezie members and challengers have been amazing. Thanks to you all! But it seems like I can't reach folks outside of this great network. Am I missing something?

A giveaway? hahaha…
I think people from out of network are just less visible because they don't leave comments.

I agree with Retireby40. You probably get 100+ visitors a day, which is way more than just Yakezie. It's just that most non-blogger visitors don't leave comments.

Hi RB40,
A giveaway? Great idea!
Hi TCI,
Good point. It does take a special reader to leave a comment. Thanks for reminding me!

I've only starting hearing from non-Yakezie readers recently. Apparently my mini-niche (divorced women with financial disaster) resonates with other divorced women, because I have gotten several emails from people in a similar situation.
I think response depends on the intended audience. If you're gearing your posts toward super busy corporate workers, they probably don't have time to engage beyond reading your posts. If you write to parents of toddlers, you're getting women who are home on their computers all day – that's why the mom bloggers get like 3 million comments on every post.
A lot of people are probably reading, they just may not comment, like retireby40 said.

Two thoughts:
1. You could also expand your content to be more inclusive of other niches. I started a frugal recipe series for example. I could imagine someone into gadgets could do low-cost tech series, etc.
2. Guest post on a large PF site.

Completely true. Those are the average guys (no bloggers) who just come to your blog for the information, and don't leave a trace.

I have been trying to comment in other PF related forums and that has brought a few visitors. Have you tried joining some groups on Linkedin?
I have only been blogging for a couple of months so I am having difficulty attracting non-Yakezie readers also. twitter and facebook have not been effective yet and I can't seem to get enough visitors to social bookmark my articles to make it to the first page, usually 8-10 for Tip'd.
I think a giveaway is a great idea and if promoted well should bring traffic.
Best of luck!

Commenting on sites outside of Yakezie, being involved in blog carnivals, and hosting giveaways are the best ways I've found to attract people outside of Yakezie.

I think I have quite a few non-Yakezie readers, since I started blogging on the topic of working in Accounting a long time ago. I'm always surprised when I get a comment from these readers, and some of them will comment only 2 times a year, but have been following for quite some time. Many of them don't have their own blog to link to, so there is not much incentive for them to comment and link to their site, and maybe they don't feel like their opinion needs to be heard.
Essentially, you have the readers, most likely, so perhaps your real question is how to get them more engaged.
I've found that either when I post on very professional-life-as-an-accountant topics, I get a little more response, or when I post on something completely personal, like my whiny post about my roommates, I get a bunch of people commenting that ordinarily don't have anything to say about my budget updates, etc.

That's a fantastic number. I think my search engine traffic is half that. You must have some nice focus on SEO, congrats!

My traffic is much bigger than the Yakezie network, but very few leave comments. I have made my articles SEO focused which is helping. I still contend that content is still key.

Hi Andrea,
Great points. Didn't think about that. I may need to fine tune my target audience. Thanks!

Hi SFF,
Nice suggestions. Will brainstorm on niche topics for a series. I've guest posted on large general blog sites, but not on a large PF blog. Thanks!

Here's what I have learned so far in 6 months of blogging
1. Sites like GRS gets majority of comments (around 60%) from other bloggers. So non blogger reader don't leave comments justa s I used to do last 5 years
2. GA tool will tell you how many are from non referral sites came by. If you analyse the direct visits and SE visits and see the absolutely new metrix, you will know if non bloggers are your repeat vistors, you may feel either excited or dejected seeing this
3.Blog commenting will get you only a couple of repeat visitors (regular reader) a week not more than that.
4. Guest posts to a A list blog gives 10's of repeat visitors per guest post.
5. Get yourself visible in main stream media or write for some of them who will let you insert your blog link. you'll get 100'2 or 1000's of repeat visitors.
Summary, to go to next level of blogging you have to be in main stream media frequently or else you'll end up with 500 daily visitors at the end of 3/4 years of blogging. You will get steady income no doubt, and this depends on personal chhoice, if you are happy with couple of thousand in earning then its ok, but, if you want to make a mark in blogging then you will basically be no where near that.
Saying this, I still have no clue how to get to step 5.
Thanks for reading it through this point, appreciate your patiance

These are great ideas. I also have guest posted at sites outside the niche including a laundry site (Mama's Laundry Talk).

Hey SB,
That's a pretty accurate breakdown. Are you gunning for more main stream media coverage? You might be on to something there.

Hi Frugal Toad,
Thanks, I'm using Facebook and Twitter and tried pushing some articles through Reddit. Always looking for other options. Thanks again!
