Thanks Jacob!

Hey Evan,

Do you massage your post for search engines after the fact or do you write for search engines?  Thanks!

We've ran into the same problem.  I love interacting with Yakezie members, but I want to appeal to a wider audience as well.  We tried a scholarship contest which was a bust.  We are now planning some new giveaways and are trying to build relationships everywhere they can.

It can be really tough to grow your audience beyond yakezie or even the PF community. I can't really give any great advice as we are having the same trouble. You can grow your site in lots of ways within the PF community, but to really get to the next level you really have to get the one of visitors from search engines and other referrals and change them into repeat visitors. Making sure that you have the right type of content that interests people without blogs is important. Whenever I post, i would ask myself the question "why would someone want to read this and would they come back to it again", which is harder than it seems. Also make it easier for people to follow you, so push your twitter/rss/email as much as possible.

My traffic is about 70 percent search engine too.  What I have found is that a few of my articles will bring in a lot of traffic, and those posts were not written for search engines.  You just never know what will strike a chord.

Reddit and those are great for traffic spikes, but for me, those readers have not stuck around.

I too have been wondering how to get my traffic higher.  It seems to ebb and flow, and I have been staying pretty steady the last month or so.  Would love to see an increase.  I just haven't had as much time lately, but I do need to sit down and brainstorm.

Have you tried engaging groups on Linkedin? Not sure how easy it would be to have a Buck Inspire profile on Linkedin, but they make it easy to search for groups that would match your target audience. You can engage in discussions, or begin your own…much like you do on Yakezie. I get some referral traffic this way. Seems to be a good source for readers that will stick around.

I have never written for search engine traffic – I just write and apply some very simple SEO techniques (I make sure I fill out the SEO plugin & make sure I use H3/H4 headers).

I am not sure why google likes me so much…the other day I wrote about getting my american express card fee waived and less than 24 hours later I was 3rd on google's search of american express card under amex and wikipedia.

No clue why but that post may be a good one to look at to see what I did

I think a lot of people read, just not many like to leave comments for one reason or another – though unlike so over debt, I dont get a lot of emails from readers :(

I don't get many, just a few every now and then. And that's only started happening recently. I can't even express how excited I get.

I think it's probably the same reason why after mentioning Greek food earlier today on Twitter, I had a couple of people who blog or like Greek food follow me briefly.  Particularly your post, lots of people do searches for Amex or tips to waive a fee or just credit cards in general.  Plus, you're just too cool not to be placed that high Cool

Henry–I like that line of questioning you do for your articles! Makes a lot of sense, and probably gives great perspective to your writing. I'll have to try it sometime!

I am pretty awesome aren't I? lol

If you like Greek food order Pastichio Not sure if anyone down in Florida will make it good, but it is my favorite.  Sort of like Greek Lasagna.
