Im sure most of you use Google Analytics (or something similar).  Im curious as to what your average time per visit is? Or if you dont want to tell me your specifics, what a decent average time would be? Im a fledging blog, but just curious to see how Im progressing thus far, and its difficult to determine without some benchmarks.

Thanks everyone! As usual this forum has been more than helpful to me

It seems my "Average Time On Site" was 2:50 for the last month or an average of 2:49 per visit since I started last February – that's some consistency right there, lol.  :-)

My average time on site is about the same as Crystal's.  Most of my content is short "tips" so that doesn't surprise me much.  I also seem to average between 2-3 page views per visit.

Average for me is 2:46, though I'm sure to what kind of value I'd put on that, since I spend a lot of time on my site, but I also have a lot of social bookmarking traffic that sticks around for 10 seconds then takes off.

It's a valuable metric if you can discount all the possible variables that go into it.  I like page views per visit a lot more, since it shows how likely a visitor is to trudge into the deeper pages of your site.  For me, that number is lower at 1.9 pages per visit.

Between 1 and 2 minutes depending on the site. Social medias brings the average down while SE and direct traffic are about the same.

I guess the number of ads I have in place have to play with the time spent on my sites ;-). If they click on Adsense ads; I make money but I lose a visitors… That's hard to determine which one I want more: visitors or $ ?

@TFB good point…I didnt think about people clicking off the site.  LoL its a non-factor for me since I only have 2 clicks to date, but I could see how that would affect time on the site down the road.

@JT – I think (I could be wrong) I had Google Analytics remove time spent by the site as an admin….Ive been trying to stay off the site unless Im on my dashboard because I want to see how quickly I can get my Alexa ranking down without influencing it myself.  Ive gone from 8M to 1.2M in 3 weeks, obviously I have a very long way to go, but its encouraging to see it go down.

My average time is 2:14 but I don't read much into it. To really make sense of it, you'd have to understand where they came from and why they left … Like TFB said, did they come in through a search engine hit and leave by making you dollar? or are they interested in the topic to become contributors in the form of comments.

What I think is a more important use of analytics is to analyse the strength of your blog and keep on doing that and then explore other avenues and use the analytics to make sure it works out. For example, are you reaching the target audience you expected to reach?

It fluxuates between 1 and 2 minutes leaning toward the low side. The Google script counts people when they click links within your site using a cookie. More clicks (more pages per visit) increases this number. I need to figure out how to bring that number up and get more sticky.

I have an average of about 4 minutes. I think that is a little skewed because I've only been in operation for a few months and one day some one spent an entire hour browsing! I would say the mode is between 2.5 and 3 minutes.

Based on traffic source, for 2010:

Direct traffic : 1:29

Search engine : 0:52

Referrals : 1:50

Overall I'm closer to 1 minute since most of my traffic is from Google.

4:13 average, 5.21 pageviews per visit.

We do not do social media and have a less than 10% bounce rate, so that helps a lot. We are a new site and 60% of the visits are new (thus maybe want to read more in our archives etc) so that helps as well.
