I'm looking for a few tips to attract more people to my site. Obviously, quality content will keep people returning but what are some proven ways to bring on new visitors?
Between Twitter, Facebook, commenting on other blogs, participating in these forums: do you guys have more success with one versus another?
Any feedback is much appreciated…
Thanks!

I second this. It will attract people to your site, but you have to make sure you back it up with great articles so that they keep coming back.

I would also suggest guest posting. If people read another blog regularly, see your post, and like it, they're likely to visit your site and see what else you've got.

All of the above suggestions work well. Giveaways rock if you do them write and guest posting also helps. You can also search out for some staff gigs which will help too.

Interviews.
Find people who would be interesting to your audience and interview them. Then ask them to promote to their friends.
You will free promotion and maybe even new readers that stick.
When I first started most of my uniques were coming straight to the entrepreneur interview that week.

Giveaways and commenting on other sites!
If a blogger that I don't know comments on my site, I ALWAYS check out their site, follow them on twitter, facebook, and RSS. I've noticed others doing the same when I comment on a new blog.

Contests will bring people in the door, but, if once they get in there is crap offered, or you serve up more crap while they've shown up, they'll leave.
Quality content + promotion is key IMO.

yes quality content is obviously going to be most important… if you have that, promoting can still be difficult. giveaways are a great thing if you do the proper research on to do an effective one. guest posting is very good too. actually blog swaps are a great way to go as well. that way you get a post in return for one you have written, so they are great if you are strapped for time and doing a guest post isnt as feasible, and it allows you to get featured on another blog.
SEO is a big deal… unfortunately, Im probably the least knowledgeable yakezie member when it comes to this topic, and my search engine results suffer for it. As I build my content Im doing much better than I did initially, but it's a HUGE thing I have tried to work on since I began my site and not sure if Ive gotten where I need to with it.
