You should be able to get mailchimp to take you to a confirmation page after someone clicks the button. Here's a page with some information that may help:

I signed up a while ago as well, am I showing up?
I have a newsletter on my site http://www.familymoneyvalues.c…../subscribe but only send one out once a quarter. So far I haven't done much promoting of it and am just using a Joomla extension to create it.
They can be pain's to format – because everyone's software interprets them and presents them differently.

add one of those annoying newsletter pop ups, which I refuse to do. I cannot stand those things.
Thank you! I unsubscribe a blog from my RSS feed when a full feed isn't published as it's my biggest pet peeve. This newsletter-pop-up practice is quickly moving its way up my annoyance list, so I'm glad to hear you won't be partaking in that practice!
I think my full feed is published (I will admit that I suck with following through on setups like that)…now I will have to go look, lol.

I just signed up (the button didn't give a response in Firefox) and I got my confirmation email in a few seconds!

@Mark, thanks!
@Khaleef, yeah, the no response thing is annoying but it beats adding an awful pop up…glad you received the email quickly though!

The counter on the form said 49 subscribers before I signed up, so I'm #50? I didn't get a welcome e-mail after clicking on the confirm button.
One thing you should take care of before you send out your first newsletter is having a physical address in your e-mails. (A PO Box is fine.) That's necessary to comply with the CAN-SPAM Act. Specifically Item 4 here:
http://business.ftc.gov/docume…..e-business
My physical address is in my confirmation e-mail as well. It should be. What if someone (or some spambot) starts trying to subscribe people? Your confirmation e-mail wasn't sent at the recipient's request.
Anyway, that should be easy to take care of. Looking forward to seeing your newsletter.
(PS … I have one too: http://www.mightybargainhunter…..newsletter )

I too unsubscribe from blogs that have that pop up at the beginning, especially since some of them I already subscribed to.
Anyway, while we're on the topic of annoying things people to do for metrics, the other thing I hate is when articles have "top 10 expensive cities, or top 25 diabetic snack foods" and they make each one a separate page view. I always hated those slide shows but now I know why they do it. Grrr. Anyway, anyone who's ever tempted to do that, don't, please.

Congrats, Crystal… that is awesome news. You just keep growing like a snowball rolling down a mountain. You're on your way to becoming an avalanche of blogging goodness in no time at all.
As for the newsletter popups, I hate those. I tend not to return to blogs that have those, and I find them annoying as hell.

I'm really starting to reconsider having a subscription box pop up on Fat Guy Skinny Wallet. It comes up after 30 seconds, and it will only pop up if you haven't visited the site in over a week. Do you all hate the delayed ones as well?
Also, I'm with Sandy L regarding those posts that want you to click on a new page in order to see each item in a list. I just close the site and move on!

Bothering people with ads, popups, slide shows, etc. is a judgment call. It's all about what the market will tolerate.
Sure, you'll tick off a few people every time you insert a new way to monetize their attention. So what? As long as everyone doesn't leave because of it, you're fine.

If you haven't gotten the email asking you to confirm your subscription, then you haven't been signed up. If you don't mind, I can add you in.
As far as the address thing, they did ask me for mine over at Mail Chimp.

I'm sorry, but I personally dislike all of them. If they are on a friend's site like yours, I won't leave but I do roll my eyes…like "come on, really?". It's just like how I react to my friend's that spend $100 on something they don't need when they are already broke. I won't dump them as friend's obviously but I may tease them about it, lol.

MBH, I didn't get one when I clicked on it initially. But when I did it from home the email came in like 30 secs. I guess my problem was some how a firewall thing (like I can never access blogger blogs from work). Just giving a possibility incase anyone else have this problem. Trying from a different computer worked for me.

Looks like it worked now. Not sure what the issue was.
I see your address on the confirmation page. I'd still try to put it in the "confirm your subscription" e-mail just to cover yourself.

The thought of you rolling your eyes while on my site just made me laugh! I'm actually using FGSW to test it out before adding it to KNS Financial. I'm still not sure what I'll do. Anyway, I don't want to take attention away from your newsletter!

Legally I'm covered, so I rather not give it out until I have to. I seriously need to get a PO Box…
